Thanks for the tip. This is exactly what I did afterwards as a workaround. In my case it synced 384mb in 24 hours. I just hope it will be fixed, as I frequently swap phones and might forget about it. I really love BitTorrent sync btw.

And it is still doing so. Turning of the option to use cellular data does not seem to stop the background usage. Just overspent 130 mb on my data plan :-(
