  1. It's likely then that the initial indexing of the folder never completed after you originally added the folder.

i.e. if you add a folder, then shut down Sync before the initial index has completed, the next time you run Sync, it will perform an initial index on the folder again, as it's never been able to complete a full index.

Ensuring that Sync is allowed to fully index a new folder before shutting down Sync, should mean that on next run, only a re-index rather than an full initial index will be required.

Nope, this has been happening for months.

It is possible that the first sync never happened as you mention (can't remember) but by now it should be aware no more full indexing is needed and still, if I close the app and I open it again, it starts a full index again.

  2. Sync needs to re-index folders its monitoring upon application startup in order to detect if any of those files have changed during the period whilst Sync wasn't running.

However, this re-indexing process on application startup should be considerably faster than the initial indexing when you first add a new folder to Sync.

I do not mind that kind of reindexing. I mean that app starts, the folder shows 0 in size, and starts scanning all the files again. The history even says "new file added".

Mine does that all the time, I have 15 folders and 5 or 6 of them do a full reindex everytime they are started... The other folders show X GB, those 5 or 6 show 0GB and you can see the number growing until it stops at the right size...

  3. I have a folder (136GB, almost 1 million files) that doesn't want to sync.

The log shows the following error: SyncTcpReq: Unable to uncompress incoming data, err = -5

There is heavy traficc between the two hosts (5 to 20 Mbps) but the folder remains out of sync. So far only 18.83GB have been synced.

    Using 1.4.110 on Windows 2012 R2.

  4. Make sure the Peers column is showing, then click on a row in this column to see a list of individual files being transferred

Too many clicks. And if you have a lot of folders syncing you have to click so many times! I was happier with the previous way of having everything in a tab, although this way helps identify the file and the folder.

  5. Every single day I say to myself how I did well that I did NOT update to version 1.4

And also I'm asking are you doing at least elemental testing before the release is published ?

As I wrote already in another thread, maybe will be good idea to STOP polishing GUI but concentrate to core BTSync functions.

Well said... I only updated one virtual machine for testing purposes and I am so glad I did that. Why on earth have they changed the UI when the core still not working? Good developed software should have the backend and the UI very well separated, why can't we use 1.4 with the old UI as a fallback?

  6. New simplified UI

    • UI was fully revised and now looks similar on all platforms. Also, UI was simplified significantly to make Sync usage faster, more understandable and convenient.

HAHAHA! As we say in England... Bollocks!

The UI is a catastrophe! Oh yes, fades in, fades out, very nice, but usability... ZERO.

    1. The tab I was using the most was "Devices". Now If I want to quickly check what peers are connected, I have to click "x of n Peers" on every folder. I was hoping that in the future you would update the "My Sync" and "Devices" tab into one in a tree like UI but no, you've gone backwards.

    2. Android devices appear all of them with my username, I do not know which device is which anymore.

    3. Can't resize columns. I can find the "hidden" separator but when I move left/right goes funny.

    4. When changing the preferences for each folder there is no "Cancel". As soon as you make the changes boom they are done.

    5. Still NO SORTING column!

    6. History doesn't seem to update in real time (you have to close and open the history)

    7. I feel the UI is too big. I like a lot of things on my screen.

That's just for starters after 10 minutes of using it. It would've been better if you fixed the old UI instead of making a new one that doesn't work.

Really nice software but the UI has always been lacking and I think you have gone 2 steps backwards in that department.

  7. Hello,

I do not think "Search LAN" works when you click "Use predefined hosts".

    Settings:

Use relay server when required: OFF

    Use tracker server: OFF

    Search LAN: ON

    Search DHT network: OFF

Use predefined hosts: ON with 2 remote hosts

If I add a predefined host with the local name (DEVICE-X) then it will find that host on the LAN, but otherwise it does not seem to look for them.

  8. As RomanZ has indicated, the ability to "sort" lists is on the roadmap, so will happen at some point! Yay! :)

Great! Hope it will come with more GUI updates... I am preparing a list of things I would like to see to post as "Wish List".

    kamborio,

All your 10 PCs are in the same subnet?

    But of course! :-)

    kamborio, Kai, Bwainscott,

Did you try to restart missing clients? Does it help? If no - can I please get debug logs for your peers (at least 2 logs needed from PCs that do not see each other).

    Thanks!

I tried everything... to no joy. My configuration is with "lan_encrypt_data = false", but changing it to true in all clients did not have any effect. At the end I entered the local hostname and port on the hosts list and that did the trick. So it looks like as if the search LAN without tracker does not work.

  9. For one thing, the way folders are displayed now is not something I'd be looking for. To me, this is incorrect. Now, it is simply confusing, as I have some folders with the same name but in totally different paths, and so, when I switch tabs back and forth, I'd like to see the whole picture all at once with full path names instead of using tool tip just to find out which exact folder it is.

I totally agree. Instead of removing the path and adding some icons it would have been much better if the allow the list to be sorted, or if they showed the folders and devices in a sortable tree-like structure.

    + Folder 1

       |

       ----- Device 1 (IP:Port)

       |

       ----- Device 2 (IP:Port)

    + Folder 2

       |

       ----- Device 1 (IP:Port)

       |

       ----- Device 3 (IP:Port)

    Regards,

    David

  10. Updated 3 computers and we hit the first problem...

Folders configured to only "Search LAN" (tracker disabled), each computer only sees 2 (out of 10) folder from each other.

Not cool... Folders using tracker or hosts seem to be working.

No configuration changes have been made, just update and run BitTorrent Sync. It was working before the update.

I hope there is a quick update for this soon...
