    joshofbass,

the team has gathered the information and is now considering the options . You're right and GFW is a tough guy, and a question here is not only to bypass this current block but also to make it permanent as there will always be other options to block Sync in China  in any other way.

Currently we suggest using proxy server, VPN tunnel or at least "Predefined host" option in Sync for peer discovery.

So that's the only solution so far?

I'm also thinking to switch to another service, I would also prefer to stick to sync. But I also need to know if I need to wait and how much. In my group (small academic research group) we gave up already on Sync and just bought a NAS with some synchronization software, it does the trick

My typical application is to transfer files between my different devices without having to think about it, so using the local network only. The solutions you propose are too much of hassle for me: having a proxy or a VPN would be too slow and unreliable (the GFW is constantly changing...) and the predefined host is not a good option because if I connect to another local network, it's likely that the IP of my devices will change and so far the app on android does not always save properly the predefined host settings.

Ideally a kind of local tracker within the local network would be the best.
