supermooshman
Hi all,a question which I don't seem to find the answer to (although I am able to do an educated guess... I would prefer to get someone with a bit more knowledge to confirm this Basically, what I am looking at is following: I would like to implement the use of Sync rather than Dropbox in the company where I am currently working (one of the reasons is the fact that my Dropbox is at a permanent 99,7% capacity). One of the advantages which Dropbox has at the moment (please correct me if I am wrong) is the possibility to easily share and revoke access to a shared folder. With Sync, this is possible by having my colleagues install Sync and sharing the secret with them, but when someone leaves the company theoretically this person keeps their access unless the secret is changed, in which case everyone in the company who has access to the folder has to re-enter the new secret? edit: extra question for more karma!Seeing how it is not a cloud storage service, and I found this on the forum: Will me devices still sync when switched off?BitTorrent Sync is not a cloud storage solution like SkyDrive/DropBox/GDrive, etc - it doesn't sync your files to a "cloud", therefore for one device to sync with another, both devices need to be online. Does that mean the device which uploaded the original file has to be on while syncing to all the connected devices or does it suffice to sync to upload something from a laptop to for example a central server running Sync and have the server "hosting" the file to other devices once the laptop goes ofline? Thanks! Edited November 5, 2013 by supermooshman
Doc Green
Hi supermooshman,I am actually doing the same thing at the moment. There is no way to revoke someones permission at the moment. I hope there will be a solution, so you can revoke one persons secret without changing it on all the other devices, that is quite unhandy. However I plan to play with the new API once i receive the API key, it should give me the possibility to remotely change secrets on all running devices with webgui enabled via some scripts. At the moment I dont see how you can do such a thing in an unsecure environment (device outside the companys network or on mobile devices). And yes you can turn off your computer after sync with another machine is completed.I use it this way at the company and at home. I have a device/server always runnning in the LAN. These always on instances take care of updating other clients when they come online. It is also pretty handy for transfers over slow internet connections. So longDoc Green
