From my reading of 'Sharing a folder locally' (Sharing a folder locally – Sync (resilio.com)) and 'Is one way sychronisation possible' (Is one-way synchronization possible? – Sync (resilio.com)), it seems I can set up an external HDD as a backup storage, identify the folders on my desktop to backup, create a link to the HDD and make it a read-only option so any issues or changes on the backed-up (HDD) data don't translate (sync) to the original folder.
