  1. I have upgraded all of my devices to 2.0. I am syncing two directories, unchanged from before the upgrade. One directory ("BIG") includes thousands of files across hundres of directories. The other directory ("LITTLE") is very small and includes a dozen files.

     

     

    Here are my problems and questions:

     

    1 - Since upgrading, even though BTSync says all files are synced, my files seem to sync continuously. Files that are already on all devices keep showing up as syncing in sync history.  Why?

     

    2 -  the directories shown in the BT Sync application have a "1.4" icon on them. Why?

     

    3 - Adding files to LITTLE syncs immediately across all devices. When I add files to BIG, they do not sync. Instead, the 'other' devices get a file called something like "filename.docx.bts."  The .bts files just sit there for days without the actual file being synced. Why won't they sync?

     

    I suspect that 2.0 is reindexing my files and that nothing will sync properly in BIG until that process is done. Could that be what is going on here?

  2. Nevermind. I repeated the steps for linking devices and, this time, was able to accomplish the tasks. I can't explain why it worked now and not before. Time to move on.

     

    I anyone else experiences similar problems, my suggestion is that you allow the new device installations to sit for a bit and try again.

  3. Aside from being irritated about the way Sync 2.0 was rolled out to existing users, I am utterly unable to get 2.0 working any of my devices.

     

    Android

    I installed it on my laptop successfully. I then scanned to QR code to my Android Sync app. The error "Can't link your devices. Plesae check your connection and try again' popped up over and over. (Yes, I had excellent internet connections at the time.)

     

    Windows

    After the laptop installation, I installed 2.0 on my desktop machine. I manually pasted in the Sync key provided from the software on my laptop. The result? masterKeyError207 and no linkage.

     

    So I now have 3 devices, no syncing and even more frustration over this "upgrade."

     

    Can anybody help restore my faith in this app and suggest how to fix this?

  4. I am really surprised at how poorly this was rolled out to current users. No advance notice. No explanation of the new folder limits (until after-the-fact). Renegging on prior promises. No 'grandfathering' or other benefit for current users. Complete loss of goodwill. 

     

    For those of you now seeking an alternative, the open source and totally free FreeFileSync is a pretty good option. Here is an old, somewhat out-of-date comparison between the two. Also, there is a wikipedia article comparing file syncing software.

  5. This is really fascinating.  For one file that was destroyed when Machine A overwrote what I had on Machine B, I cannot delete it from B. When I delete it, it immediately reappears, "synced" by BTS. To get rid of the old file, I had to go to Machine A to delete it. The it was deleted from B.

     

    At some point soon, I will need to spend hours trying to figure out where similar problems exist among my thousands of files. But the bottom line is that this new version of BTS is not providing reliable synchronization.

    When upgrading, I did not check to see if the folders were in sync. The 'new' file had been edited on October 20 while the old file had a date of May 27.  The file in question was a WordPerfect (.wpd) text file. (Yes, I know, but it's still a better application than Word, regardless of its popularity.) I have BTS running at all times, so, yes, I assume it was running when the files were modified.

     

    Another symptom: BTS history frequently shows it syncing files that I have archived and which have not been changed or accessed for months or years. No changes appear to occur, but the activity shows up.

  6. I upgraded two computers to 1.4.93 Beta and have had nothing but problems. The install itself was poor because the installation failed more than once on each machine before saved the file and installed it outside the automated installation routine. Once installed, I noticed that my files were not syncing. Today I found that all of my folders on one of my computers are missing from the BTS preferences.

     

    So now I need to go back and figure out how to re-do my settings and get this running again. In a nutshell, this update has been a mess for me and will end up being about a 5-hour time waster.

     

     

  7. That worked flawlessly. Other files created on Computer 1 are also properly syncing to Computer 2. It appears that only some files are affected.

     

    This may relate to a long-standing issue I have had with BTS. BTS will frequently sync hundreds of files in archive folders that exist on both computers and are unchanged. Not sure it is a related problem, but I toss it out as another symptom of the illness.

  8. I am haviing an odd problem. A MSWord file created on Computer 1 syncs to Computer 2 and is visible in the BTS history on Computer 2. But the files are nowhere to be found on Computer 2. In other words, the file cannot be viewed or opened on Computer 2 using MSWord or File Explorer.

     

    Any idea what would cause this or how to fix it? Thanks for your guidance.

Thanks for your response.  I use BTS to sync two computers but have long used (long before I installed BTS) CrashPlan for off-site backup up.  I do have QuickBooks on my system, but do not have a separate backup routine for it and, in fact, have disabled the automatic backup settings in the program.

     

    Although I used an example from my QuickBooks directory, I do have other files (.docx, pdf) in other directories that possess a .!sync extension and are no longer accessible. They do not also have the .DSN or .ND extensions.

     

    I understand what you said about a !sync file being created by Sync during the receiving of data from a file on another device. That makes sense if a NEW FILE is being created on the receiving device. But this problem is occurring on the device where the ORIGINAL file is located. If BTS is renaming the ORIGINAL FILE with !sync during the syncing process that strikes me as a bad process.  That is what has happened to me and it leaves me with a corrupted ORGINAL FILE because the renamed .!sync file is not being renamed back to the original.  (In this example, my QuickBooks software only exists on the originating machine.)

     

    Does BTS rename the ORIGINAL FILE during the sync process?  Because that is where my problem is occurring.

     

    I am grateful for your help and appreciate you taking the time to respond.

  10. Quite simply, BitTorrent is corrupting some of the original files it syncs.

     

    Here is what is happening:

     

    On Computer A, I have file123.xxx.  After BitTorrent sync, I end up with:

     

    file123.xxx.!sync

    file123.xxx!sync.DSN

    file123.xxx.!sync.ND

     

    On Computer B, to which the files are being synced, I end up with

     

    file123.xxx

    file123.xxx!sync.DSN

    file123.xxx.!sync.ND

     

    On Computer A, the original file disappears and cannot be opened even after I remove the added extension. The original file that has been synced to Computer B is still functional.

     

    This happens for different file types and in different directories without apparent pattern or reason. It only affects some files.

     

    Any ideas what is going on here?  Thanks for your help!

  11. I have using BT for months to sync two large Document folders on two computers. It has worked great.  But . . . .

     

    Today, I noticed that BT on Computer 1 was transferring data (as reflected under both Transfer and History), even though there it showed "no connected devices."  The files being transferred were not showing up on Computer 2. Computer 2 showed "no connected devices" and no transfer activity or history.

     

    So where are the files from Computer 1 going? Should I concerned about a security breach or that a third party is grabbing my files?

  12. Thank you for that advice.  Since the root is Folder1, I altered the .syncignore file to:

     

    Outlook Data
    Outlook Data/*

     

    But that did not work.  Syncing still occurs.  Any other suggestion you can provide is appreciated.

     

    This is a frustrating problem, shared by many, judging from the posts in this forum. I hope there is a feature in the works that will simplify the exclusion of files and folders.

  13.  I am new to BTSync and love what it does, but I cannot figure out how to get SyncIgnore working, despite reading many posts on this forum and revising my setup many times.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

     

    Currently, I am syncing Folder1 and it subfolders.  Within Folder1 is a subdirectory called Outlook Data, which houses my PST files.  I do not want those files synced because they are too large and fill the harddrive on my other device.  I created a .SyncIgnore file with the following entries:

     

    C:\Folder1\Outlook Data
    C:\Folder1\Outlook Data/*

    I copied the .SyncIgore file to the root directory of both devices. 

     

    One potential problem is that on Device1, the folder structure is as above.  On Device2, it appears as

     

    C:\Users\user1_000\Folder1\Outlook Data
    C:\Users\user1_000\Folder1\Outlook Data/*

     

    If this is my problem, how do I get around it?  If not, might you have other suggestions?
