How To Sync Every Few Seconds?

What operating system are you using? ...as the OS generally determines how quickly Sync is able to detect changes to your files.

For example, on Macs, there is no "real time" detection of file changes (a limitation of the underlying OS, not of Sync) - instead, Sync has to perform a folder rescan at a recurring interval (every 10 minutes by default, but this can be configured).

On other devices, a delay between a file being modified and the changes being synced can commonly be a few to several seconds.

Chizbang,

Currently BTSync can't make it much faster. After receiving system notification on file change it takes a while (10-15sec) to make sure that the OS or App is not going to do any additional changes to the file. Also, peers exchange the tree synchronisation messages every 10 seconds, plus it takes a while to merge the file trees itself.

So even if you set up the folder rescan interval to a very humble value, it won't make sync start faster.

Well, ok, one question: why dropbox and other cloud services syncs more faster? They don't wait 10 after file save, they start sync immediately.

@Insec,

I'm not familiar with Dropbox source codes so I can't say which technology and which algorithms do they use  to determine if file change is complete.

For BTSync it takes 10-20 seconds to start sync. The team is working constantly to improve BTSync, so it might get better in future.
