sellis
I currently use a custom app to sync mapped network drives to local SSDs. Would love it Bittorrent Sync could do this. I can not install Sync on the network computer. Have tried setting same key for two sync folders but it wouldn't let me.
GreatMarko
Have tried setting same key for two sync folders but it wouldn't let me.Correct - Sync is not a file copy/mirror tool - it's designed to Synchronize files between devices, rather than between two locations on or (mapped to) the same device. Also, consider how Sync works: it uses underlying "peer-to-peer" technology to synchronize files. If you only have a single peer - as in your case, Sync fundamentally can't work - it needs at least one other peer running Sync in order to function. There are potentially a couple of messy workarounds; firstly, you could use an additional device running Sync as an "intermediary"/"pass through" (i.e. map your network drive to a folder on that second device and add it to Sync, then on your first device, add a local folder to Sync using the same key as the second). Alternatively, people have been known to run two instances of sync on the same device (under different user accounts) - not officially supported or advisable, but could potentially work. But really if you're already using a "custom app" to "mirror" a network folder to a local folder, that's probably your best solution right now! ChrisH
Also BTSync does a lot of unnecessary overhead stuff for your use case, because it works on the principle that bandwidth is much more "expensive" than CPU time. Stay with your custom app.
