Device-based permissions. It is Read-write and read-only permissions that are based on key (secrets).

User-based permissions. It is Read-write, read-only and owner permissions based on certificates.

I think one of the important questions is: can I (as a Pro user) share an advanced folder with someone who does not have a Pro license?

I didn't have time yet to try this :).

To answer my own question:

Please note: you can’t create an Advanced folder in Sync Free, however, if a Sync Pro user has shared such a folder with you, you can add it to the free version of the app and sync data according the the permission (RO, R&W, Owner) issued.
