Sync doesn't run on Windows 7 64bit???

At last I wanted to try an up to date version of sync (still running btsync 1.3!). To test I took a windows 7 64bit VM (fully updated), downloaded Resilio-Sync_x64.exe, started the installer, left all the check boxes as they were, except unchecked "start with windows".

No error message but also no visible sign that the program has started, Task Manager shows no process with name "Sync", "Resilio" or the like.

Double clicked on the desktop icon and got a (German) error message saying the program is not compatible and I should ask the software vendor to get the right 32/64bit version.

Tried to uninstall which also failed but nontheless installed the 32bit version over the 64bit install: same result (no start after installation, same error message when started manually)

I even set up a totally clean new VM (also with Windows 7 64bit) with the same problem. Only difference: Message during installation that IE 9 is missing and that the stardard browser is used instead. Probably because it was a fresh Windows with no updates installed yet. But as I said the error message when I tried to start is the same as with the fully updated Windows 7.

Something looks very broken here, on the other hand I cannot believe that Sync doesn't work with a still so common Windows version.

Any ideas?

@stan2 Sync 2.x requires IE 9 and higher is recommended. If you don't have IE 9 installed, Sync 2.x will be using your default browser for WebGUI. Note: on Windows Sync 2.x cannot be used under a Guest account due to a number of limitations imposed by the system when a user is logged in as a Guest: Sync can't perform cryptographic operations, can't generate keys or certificates and has limited access to the file system.

Also make sure that any apps such as firewalls or antivirus programms do not restrict new build installation. Of course if they are activated in your OS.

As I said: There is no WebGUI, just an incompatibility warning from windows. The program obviously doesn't even start,
I am running as a normal user (the user created during Windows installation), no Guest account, no antivirus, no firewall settings other than the default, just a fresh and clean install of Windows 7. The only thing that is not plain standard is that Windows is running within VMware Workstation but that shouldn't make a program "not compatible with this version of Windows".

Sorry, I cannot record logs since the program doesn't even start, so it cannot write any logs.

I just tried on another PC with a Windows 7 32bit VM and everything works fine there, very mysterious.

As a last resort: is there a 1.x version that is compatible with Sync 2.x? As far as I know my 1.3 isn't compatible, perhaps 1.4?
Then I could upgrade to the most recent version where possible but be still able to sync with the PC where the new version doesn't run.

I will also try with every Windows 7 installation ISO I can get my hands on to find out the exact environment where the install fails and where it works. Will report back when I have new findings...

@stan2 I adviced you contact support team as we can generate different reasons. Have you checked a storage folder of the app on your device? Even after unsuccesfull installation they could be recorded etc.

Sync 1.4 and 2.x compatible but only standard folders ( 1.4) can be used for the files syncing.
