I think you've got the wrong concept here. By creating a "read only" link on your server originally hosting the files, your "local machine" will be having a "read only" permission on all the files currently existing on the server itself. By "read only", it means that your local machine cannot make changes to the original host (which is your server). Any changes you make on the server will be reflected on the local machine, including file deletion.
