No sync at all on OSX

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I've recently gotten a new mac from work and tried to sync some stuff with BitTorrent Sync, but it doesn't seem to work at all.

Both Macs are running the latest OSX 10.8.4, both are in the same local network, and I can telnet to the listening port from one to the other. Firewall allows BitTorrent Sync to pass through. I've already tried adding and readding folders and nothing.

Whenever I add a new file or remove something, the action isn't replicated on the other machine. The transfers or devices tab show me absolutely nothing.

I've turned on debug logs and all I see is this:

[20130524 21:06:22] Requesting peers from server

[20130524 21:06:22] Got list of 1 peers from 54.225.92.50:3000

[20130524 21:06:23] Sending broadcast ping for share *********

The share ID is the same on both machines. Should I see 2 peers on this message?

I honestly have no idea of what else to check. Looking around the forums I didn't manage to see anyone with a similar issue that didn't have some more easy to track down cause and I'm at a loss for ideas.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I know there were issues surrounding "real time" monitoring of files on OSX, so instead of your files syncing in "real-time", they may only sync on the 10-minute rescan fallback interval (this interval is configurable through the advanced "folder_rescan_interval" setting)

So the question would be, Are your files also not syncing even after this "rescan" interval?

Ok, so I've updated to the latest version (I was still on 1.0.x and apparently you don't get auto updates to 1.1.x) with no differences.

I've checked your post and tried adding the IP addresses manually for each machine. Still no go.

What log files do you mean exactly?

sync.log for both machines contains only this at the start:

[20130528 01:18:10.074] test sha1: ******
[20130528 01:18:10.074] test sha2: ******

[20130528 01:18:18.724] SyncFilesController: started periodic scan

followed by the list of files from the controller and, after that, what I posted on the initial post:

[20130528 01:29:10.285] Sending broadcast ping for share *******
[20130528 01:29:11.293] Sending broadcast ping for share *******

[20130528 01:29:20.410] Sending broadcast ping for share *******

with various repetitions of these patterns. The log on the other machine looks exactly the same.

I don't see anything weird on system.log. Any other logs I should be looking at?

If you put in the correct IP:port for known hosts and your firewalls allow you to connect you should get lines like this ...

[20130528 20:31:12] Got ping (broadcast: 0) from peer 59.13.171.20:27126 (70461140ED1FEA223F85CE0260B0BBB64E95015D) for share 0FDBBAC4843BCD58A454D2803859501BA27AE32B

BTW: The share id is safe to post as it's the CLIP160(SHA2256(CLIP160(SHA2256(Secret))).

If you don't want to post any logs here try reading the other sticky threads ie: If you have SyncApp issue
