Bohemia
I want to establish a sync between my computer and my partner's, so we can transfer files. ME- I install BitTorrent Sync- I add a shared folder, and retrieve the auto-generated key MY PARTNER- He installs BitTorrent Sync- Then what? I'm mentally unable to conceptualize how him having my key alone will link our computers. If this was the case, wouldn't he be able to put any string of integers and access a random person's secure folder? nils
he would, if he would be lucky enough to hit a secret that is actually in use. The odds are not in favour for him. Some people even use longer secrets, several 100 characters long, further decreasing the chance of finding a secret.
smeerbartje
Besides the (small) chance that your partner can view other people's files, I'm interested in what technically is happening after your partners enters the secret and assigns a (local) directory to the shared folder. I guess:His computer tries to connect to a server from Bittorrent and handles over (parts of) the secret keyThe server of Bittorrent detects that the key indeed is in use and return the ipaddress of possible other computers sharing folders with the same key. That's the reason your partner's computer can eventually find your computerRight?
