Synchronize Two Folders On Same Device (Mirroring)

Hello! Thanks for a great app!

I would like to be able to synchronize two folders on one computer. It is necessary to back up to a local network-attached storage mapped as a network drive.

I added a folder and tried to specify The secret, already existing on this computer, but the program is not allow it. Then I tried to use read only secret and predefined host via the loopback interface. It did not work. In the tab "Devices" line is not displayed and synchronization does not start.

I think that there should be no difference, I connects to another computer or to yourself via loopback interface?

Thank You!

If you were to start up two copies of BTSync this could be done; but it would be slow an inefficient because of all the encryption that's required to work across the internet.

I suggest something like http://www.dirsyncpro.org/index.html for use on a single machine.

The program does not run the second copy. Also, in my opinion, a second copy must have another setting of a network port.

Loopback interface is not internet. I can set option lan_encrypt_data to false.

Thank You. I know that these programs exist. Just seemed to me somewhat artificial restriction on the use of the same secret in two different locations on the same computer.

The program does not run the second copy.

It does on linux; and yes a second port is required.

Loopback interface is not internet. I can set option lan_encrypt_data to false.

Loopback is also not the LAN, though it MIGHT be detected as such. (ie: not if the detection is via multicast)

And the encryption was just the first example; the whole mode of operation is different if you have fast local interaction between the two directories.

I suppose BT are going to have to make the command line version available on Windows too at some point, then you'll be able to try this for yourself.

Though, frankly you can probably run two copies right now by using fast user switching.

But personally; I'd much prefer for BTSync to automatically sync over Wifi with my NAS box as soon as I'm in range without having to remember to plug in some USB drive. Or to sync over the VPN as soon as I make the change (and before the laptop is stolen from the car :o )
