artexx
I'm using windows server 2003 and btsync 1.4.93, how can I set "folder_rescan_interval" that is not present in "advanced" preferences of web ui? I'm using firefox for the web ui access. In my understanding windows client doesn't use a config file, is it true? Thanks for your helpArtexx Edited October 18, 2014 by artexx
GreatMarko
Hmmm... that may be a bug. None of the advanced settings appear to be available via the Web UI on Win XP/2003. The Windows client doesn't use a config file by default, however you can run it with a config file if you run BTSync.exe with a "/config" switch followed by the name of your config file. artexx
thank you for your reply. I'll try /config optionartexx
trevellyan
The advanced settings aren't available in the x64 Linux web UI either. Should I report this separately?
GreatMarko
artexx/trevellyan - I've spoken to the devs about this; it's currently a limitation of the Web UI, which is planned to be fixed, however there is no specific ETA for this at present. In the meantime, the workaround - as indicated above - would be to set any advanced settings via a config file instead.
trevellyan
n the meantime, the workaround - as indicated above - would be to set any advanced settings via a config file instead. Then please clarify the correct approach. If I'm referring to http://sync-help.bittorrent.com/customer/portal/articles/1670248-advanced-preferences, and I want to turn off LAN encryption, would this be sufficient and correct? {/* Advanced preferences can be added to config file. Info is available at http://sync-help.bittorrent.com */lan_encrypt_data: 0}Other than wanting to know exactly how to map from the docs to the config file, I also ask because some of the boolean values are documented as defaulting to 0 or 1, while others are shown defaulting to true or false. Perhaps Sync's JSON parser doesn't care?

Perhaps Sync's JSON parser doesn't care? They should be interchangeable, however, I agree the documentation is inconsistent, and I'll flag that up. Yes, you code fragment looks ok (of course, if you need to specify multiple advanced preferences, you'd then need to comma separate them)
trevellyan
One more question, specifically about LAN encryption (feel free to move to a new topic). Who wins when one peer wants to encrypt and another doesn't? Only one of my devices is headless and thus missing the advanced options in the GUI (and the others are Macs), so that's the only one for which I haven't been able to turn off LAN encryption. Will the other peers all be forced to encrypt when talking to it?
GreatMarko
lan_encrypt_data encrypts data being sent. It doesn't encrypt data being received. Therefore if you have it enabled on device A, but not device B, data sent from A will be encrypted, data sent from B won't be. Both devices can still decrypt received data. trevellyan
That's very clear, thanks.
artexx
I'm wondering if there is a way to open the gui(not webui) from a windows 7 pc with internet explorer on lan from the windows server 2003 where btsync is installed.there is some config option to allow remote connection.thanksArtexx
RomanZ
@artexxStarting from around ~1.4.81 WebUI for Sync by default only listens to loopback interface. For Linux there is a command line option "--webui.listen <IP:port>", though it is not implemented for Windows computers. You can run Sync with config file and specify "0.0.0.0" for webui interface to force it to listen all available PC NICs.
