ppeewang
Just curious if I need to open a port on my routerif I want to use this outside of my home lan
GreatMarko
If your router supports uPnP, Sync will automatically try to open a port itself. Otherwise, you will need to manually open a port on your router (the same as the one specified in the "Listening Port" setting in Sync)
ppeewang
Thanks, what puzzles me though is that I have not put my dynamic DNS hostname with the port anywhere in my configuration in my mobile app, so how does the app know to connect to my host and port? I opened the port and it works but just wondering where the information is for my Isp hostname
ppeewang
I tried this with no ports open on my router and it works. But my confusion is how does it do this ? I have the server running on a qnap device. I assume it is using the torrent network?

ppeewang
uPnP - see: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Plug_and_Play#NAT_traversal that would make sense if it was enabled on my router and on BT Sync, but I assure you it is not on both. Does it have something to do with maybe using a tracker server in btsync ? just want to understand what is happening.
