"size limit exceeded" error

That 4 GB file size limit shows how the external HD was formatted. To fix this the HD must be reformatted. Reformatting will destroy all data on the drive, so backup any data you want to keep first. It looks like the external HG is formatted as a FAT32. I recommend reformatting it as NTFS. See https://www.easeus.com/diskmanager/file-system.html for more information
