Visible Devices Wont Sync

I am trying to sync window and linux folders on my work network using btsync with no success.

some additional data.

as can be seen in the attached screenshot bot machines are visible to each other but syncing is not activated (transfer rate is 0).

It might be important to note that to be able to see the devices i had to use predefined hosts.

Well, there are number of reasons for sync not starting.

Enable logging. That may, and probably will, give you some clues of what is going on.

I have only arrived at the office so i guess your manual is being used by others.

As for sharing my folder, since its 107Gb i don't think this is the way to go (you can write yairsuari at gmail and ill send the secret).

 

some other info i foud:

On the windows side the folder appears as 20.3 GB and on the linux side as 106.9Gb

although using the exact same setup today, the devices are not recognised (I did check that the listening ip's are correct)

the machins are pinging each other no problem there

Sorry i am not that cooperative.

 

 

Now this is becoming ridiculous.

I set up your sync on the linux machine but since its always behind a firewall it will never work. but when trying the windows machine i am told i do not have permission to change a read only folder  and i am unable to change that (not even when using attrib command as suggested by microsoft).

 

also, when looking at the linux machine it takes some time but eventually i get:

So, now, my part of the deal comes in.

What have you done to sync with me?

And what was the problem you had with Windows?

Could not you simply use file Properties -> Security and then give r/w access to the account that is running BTSync?

(Task Manager -> Process -> User name)

What did you do to sync with me that you could not do to sync with other node?

As for syncing this node, It must have something to do with the fact that the other node is on my work PC, which resides behind a firewall that blockes torrents. it worked for a long time but then it stopped working.

Initialy i added the folder listening port and it partially worked - I was able to see the other device but not actually sync.

as for the windows problem - it doesnt seem like permission problem since I was able to give all users full permission but I was not able to change the read only attribute of the folder.

 

As I said, it is weird.

This is exactly the problem that I am interested in finding out about.

Did you try to give full access rights the the PARENT folder?

(the folder in which your folder is located).

There is an interesting issue now.

I have one r/o node that was fully synced before. But today, I started seeing that node as blank, as though nothing was uploaded to it. But it indeed has all the 1.2 Gigs.

Now, the kicker here is that he is sitting there dead and the r/w node does not upload anything to it. But this very node worked just fine for weeks and had no problems whatsoever before today.

And, even more interesting is that I do not see anything in the log for this node, not by the node name, nor by the node hash. So, it is kind of disappeared even though I see it.

And then, after restarting the BTSync, I see his log records again, except there is so much stuff there that I have no clue of what to look for as far as his problem is concerned.

Update

I just checked now and I do see that node that was missing from the log back in the log file. Except he went off-line for me.

So, why did not I see anything in the log file, even with a new version of "rotating logs", that could have been truncated, is totally unclear to me. The node was clearly on line and the log was definitely being updated because my text editor informs me of changes if I maximize the window. So, I see no mistakes here.

It does display folders in a "new wave" format.

It does not display full path. As I said somewhere, I have several folders with the same folder name (as last element of the path).

So, in Devices tab in a Folder column I see several folders with the same folder name while their full path is totally different.

I am not sure if that is what interests you.

Yep, one node I was trying to look things up about, initially would show in the logs. But a few minutes later (except I do not remember what was done meanwhile), I could not see ANYTHING about that node in the log.

It tried it for about half an hour and could not believe there was absolutely no activity related to that node. The node itself WOULD show up in Devices. But it would show up as totally virgin, with all 1.2 Gig left to upload to it from the r/w node. But I know for fact, that node was fully synced.

Later on, today, that node came back on line and now I see it as fully synced again. Have no idea what happened for it to become synced. I bet he did not actually download anything from all other nodes.

Well, initially I went back to 1.2.92, but then I wanted to so that icon "files remaining to upload" and that I find pretty useful feature.

So, I decided to go back to 1.3.67, and now I am running that version on both, Win and Linux nodes.

At what point that disappearing node from the logs miracle happened, I can not tell you, meaning, that it is not clear which version of btsync I was running at the moment.

Because just yesterday I saw one of nodes again getting stuck and not syncing. And I know it was fully synced.

I actually cant follow 50% of what you are writing but I do have some aditional info i think is relevant from my side.

1. Stanha is correct, the devices sometimes reconize each other and sometimes not without me doing any changes.

2. After several days today, again they did recognize each other and even started syncing then they stopped syncing although they are being recognized.

3. this folder was actually syncing for months then started making trouble which i assumed at the time was related to changes in my office firewall settings or to the fact I changed machines.

4. looking at the log file I have a new error message ReadFileError and then again unable to map port: googling it i found the the read file error is usually typical for files that are being writen frequently.

One thing i am getting pretty confident about is the fact that this is not bad configuration on my side but there is something wrong with the software. which is a relief to some extent  but it means much more work (which I can not do ) .

Readfile error is not critical error. Indeed, it happens due to some other apps open file exclusively. Inability to map port over PMP is also not critical - either UPnP or hole punching might work.

 

I suspect that issue might be bound to your firewall \ other security software installed on your PCs. As a test you can try to disable your firewalls temporarily.

 

Also, if you drop me your debug logs (from both machines) - I'll take a look what could be wrong with your sync.

What does this log tell you if anything?

Stanha, due to logs btsync can't get modification time of some files. Error 123 means that the filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.  Is logical volume R network share or mapped virtual image?

Hi Yair,

Is it you sitting on BTSync detailed user manual?

I see this node for days and weeks and it is not downloading the main files.

Did you do something to BTSync_Notes.html and BTSync_Notes_Ru.html?

There were updates to these files but your node does not sync for some reason and I'd like to know that reason.
