Panicked Posted January 11, 2015 Report Share Posted January 11, 2015 (edited) Hello I am extremely worried I may have accidentally shared a folder full of my personal files. A few months ago, I used BTSync for the first time (1.3.94, which I was still using when this problem occurred an hour ago) to download a folder someone wanted to share with me by adding the secret he shared. Everything went correctly.Today, I tried to do the same but forgot the correct method.I stupidly did the following:From the main "My Sync" window that opens after opening the program, I clicked "Add folder" I pasted a link I received in the folder secret area text box (I did not properly read it and thought it was a secret, not an http link) (This is where my memory gets hazy: I can not remember if I then clicked "Generate" or not.) Would a http link pasted in the “secret” text box just give an error/not work? I added the "my documents" folder, mistakenly thinking that I would only be receiving downloads to this folder and forgetting syncing is not just downloading, but shares my files with other peers. Completed by clicking "OK". Looking in my recent history, there's a long list of "finished syncing with ___" and the names of other users.I am very afraid that I may have shared my folder with numerous other users! If I did not perform step 3, and did not click generate but just pasted the link, has my folder been shared? If I did perform step 3 and generated a secret, I know I did not share that secret key with anyone, so does that make sharing impossible? In my history tab, there's a list of syncs, and I can't tell if these are just an updated record of syncs from the first time I used BTSync (months ago) previously that I mentioned above or if it’s from my private folder.
