I would like to know what happens to files that have been changed on one pc (call it pc #1) with sync running while the other pc (call it pc#2) is off.   If I shut off PC #1 and go home and start pc #2 will the files that have changed on pc #1 be updated on pc #2?

No. Unless both PC's are online at the same time, they won't sync.  The difference between Sync and things like gdrive, dropbox and onedrive, is that they always have a server online to sync with, so when offline hosts come up, they sync to the server, not to PC1.

    Solutions:

    Don't power down either machine
Add a third PC that is always on whenever PC1 or 2 is on

  2. I use predefined hosts on public static IP's,  and for static private to private IP's.  If the network will change often, its better just to use their tracker. The ports used are shown in the configuration.  On my home network, I have 1GBe for general devices and PC's, and a 10GBe network for higher bandwidth storage and network devices. Before using predefined hosts, I wouldn't necessarily see the traffic going over the 10GBe network, so using predefined hosts helped solve that.

Note, over the years and updates, I've often found these settings to go missing or changed back to defaults. So if you KNOW your hosts are operational but not seeing the peers, recheck your predefined hosts list is correct.

  3. Has anyone else been experiencing momentary system hangs during large syncs? Starting in either 2.6.2 or 2.6.3 (I think the later), I've been experiencing system hangs where I can move the mouse but not click, and the desktop really doesn't refresh.  I've managed to leave Task Manager open during one of these times and I can see "System Interrupts" is pegging the CPU.

This either means my network driver changed recently (maybe when Windows went to 1809?) and isn't effectively using the proper driver and hardware (it's a 10GBe Nic connected to another 10GBe nic via 10GBe switch), or it means that Sync isn't efficiently sending data out the nic. Shortly after upgrading to 2.6.3, I noticed my sync speeds were higher than before, peaking at 1.6Gbps. Today, the system hangs have been the worst noticeable and speeds peaking at around 900Mbps.

I know from dealing with embedded devices that dealing with high rate network transmissions is tricky balancing servicing the incoming/outgoing ethernet packet buffers and dealing with system interrupts and the polling vs interrupts...  I'm using Intel 10GBe nics, so I'm expecting less CPU and more hardware offloading than the typical Realtek nic.

The post about the latest build is always pinned. Currently at #1. However, based on the extremely low build and forum activity, I have a feeling that Resilio Sync is seeing a slow death like so many other sync apps in the past. I don't know why but I assume economical reasons. Sad!

You didn't understand the request. The problem is that each release has its OWN sticky thread. So when new release 2.6.4 post is made, its a new thread with no existing notifications.  Whereas if they had a thread called "Resilio Releases", then you could subscribe to that thread and be notified automatically each time a release is made. They just need to top post in that thread so the newest release is always post #1.

But you're right about the slow death.

With me version 2.6.2 is the first version that often crashes.

It's only because of my snyced 'Downloads' folder on macOS 10.14.2 and happens mostly when Safari changes the temp file of a download to the final file.

Not the worst thing but sometimes a little bit annoying.

Try adding the temp file ext to the IgnoreList and see if that helps. Then it shouldn't see the temp to final change, just when its the final file.

I bigger question is when Synology will issue proper speculative execution vulnerability patches ;) but I digress ...

You wouldn't want that performance hit unless you shared your NAS with people you don't trust. The patches are really for cloud machines. That's why you're seeing more patches default disabled so as not to critically hobble those not necessarily at risk of malicious exploits.

🙂 You're absolutely right, thank you. I shouldn't let my frustration with RS make me cranky. If you need the update, it's worth the hassle. I used SysInternals MoveFile utility to schedule the delete and rename to avoid having to boot into Safe Mode. I'm supremely lazy. 😉

I used Unlocker and it didn't work. Thanks for the MoveFile mention.  I'll try that for the inevitable next time.

Yeah, I tried downloading it, too. The downloaded installer goes through the motions, starts Resilio Sync, and it's still the same old version (2.6.1). No error message displayed at all.

Users don't have access to other users' Roaming folders, so I don't think that's it.

I might be wrong, but I don't think users should be forced to do that. 🙂

Oh, you're not wrong, this is epic design and QA failure for sure. This is what happens when there are no experienced developers on a team.

You just asked for a work around. For me, it was worth it to stop the bug where files fail to sync due to no peers being online (when there are several). That caused much more inconvenience than two reboots and 7+ minutes of time.

I've lost any expectation that they will fix this error anytime soon.

    Click Check for Update.

Authorize elevation to administrator privileges. (Why? Is Resilio Sync still being installed to Roaming? It should install into AppData\Local\ which does not require administrator privileges.)

    Failure.

Once again, there's a sale going on, and I'd take advantage of it, but the upgrader is still broken, and I can't find any workarounds (or fixes) from Resilio.

I've been attempting the install and having it fail, then booting into safe mode and moving over/renaming the exe in the roaming folder.

  10. This bug appears to be introduced after the 2.5.13 release and is still frequently occurring for 2.6.2. It is a major issue and so far I have not seen any acknowledgement from Resilio on resolving this new bug. I would have treated this as a high priority bug when first reported 3 months ago. This is happening so frequently on all my setups and for others, I question how this didn't get noticed and resolved months ago.

Version 2.6.2 cleared up this very frequent bug on my Win10 machine.  I was thinking you might have actually fixed the bug and was so happy. Until...

Version 2.6.2. just showed the issue for my WHS2011 where I don't recall seeing this bug previously on that machine in 2.6.0 or 2.6.1.

Version 2.6.2, no change on QNAP NAS that doesn't seem to finish the "Loading..." so I don't even know which 6 files are stuck.

Clearly, the error message about no source being online for too long is wildly wrong and lacks basic logic checks as this shows even with all peers online.  At the very least, improve the error message to reflect what the actual error is.

Please fix this. At the very least, communicate with us as there are many of us who are looking at alternatives because this issue is so annoying and going on for so long without any feedback from Resilio.

  11. It seems Sync has issues with .crdownload files.  Today I had to move a 2GB drive to a 2.5GB drive so I removed the share from Sync before moving the data. The share was supposedly synced at that point so the expectation is that after re-adding it back and it indexing, they should have been in sync.  However, after removing the share, moving the data and adding back the share, I have 22 conflicts, all for .crdownload files that don't exist.

I get the error "These cannot be downloaded as there are no source peers online for too long a time".

All these files were transient and long ago removed, and on top of that, not ever in the folder that Sync is reporting. I have no idea where this old information is coming from, so there is obviously one or more bugs about failing to clean up properly, and failing to detect/index properly. A search on both computers for "*.crdownload" turned up no results.

I've just added .crdownload to my IgnoreList, so hopefully I'll avoid these bugs in the future.

I didn't mean it's a security risk. It's actually convenient because it means you can admin Sync from any device on the same LAN, which is neat. Plenty of other apps allow this: Pi-hole, UniFi Controller; your router, modem, and AP, etc.

Hmm. I guess it was just obvious since they had this for NAS'.  Search the forum for "webgui" and there's hits from 2013, 2014...

  13. This is generally a firewall thing and outside the scope of the app developers themselves.  Most people behind a NAT router isn't going to have this problem.  On my public VPS running sync, I had to open the port to access it.  Home users will generally be put into a Home profile and public computers into the public profile. So by default, LAN users will be seen as friendly to the computer but not public ones.

Which build platform is this? I tried updating on Ubuntu ARM64 last night and although the installation completed, it blew away my config.

    Might this be related?

Did you upgrade from a really old version? I somewhat recall they changed the usernames when they rebranded as resilio. I had problems right around then that might be related.

    Hello

I don't think it's related because in my case the instalation failed and at the moment I'm unable to see if my configuration is intact or not.

However, the platform is for Synology NAS DSM variants apollolake, avoton and braswell but I suspect than the issue is for all DSM variants.

Are you sure the upgrade failed? It shows right in the screenshot "Installed version 2.6.2-1".

You're probably going to want to stop the service, backup your Resilio db files, uninstall, install, stop service, restore Resilio db files.

  16. @Helen

What is the status on moving the installation directory to a proper one instead of roaming? Still can't upgrade from 2.6.0, the installation just ends with starting 2.6.0 again. I see no mention of that in the release notes.

What is the status of the bug where files are not synced and says that no peers are online when they clearly are and sync other files even in the same dir? I see both of these bugs as showstoppers that should never have made it out of QA and should be high priority fixes.

Installation of the upgrade fails on three different Synology NAS (ds718+, ds415+ and  ds716+). Using last version of Synology DSM.

Tried to downgrade to 2.6.1 fails (message: "Please re-install the package because something went wrong")

At the moment, the only solution is uninstall and re-install but configuration will be lost.

    Thank you

How did you manage to get 2.6.2 on your NAS when they have only released 2.6.1?  We've all been waiting months for fixes to issues in 2.6.1 without a peep from Resilio, so seeing a 2.6.2 released to the field without any mention on this forum is mind blowing, though it probably shouldn't come as a surprise anymore.

It is unclear what you're trying to do if an upgrade fails and then you want to downgrade. It's usually one or the other.

Have you sent them your bug report? I did so, and as you see, they addressed the issue. But probably only fixed a part of the issue. So report the bug and they'll fix it. It's your decision.

What did Support instruct you to do? Despite you acknowledging your problem was different, they clearly DID NOT fix the problem reported in this thread, so please elaborate on what fixed your issue for you in case it helps the rest of us.  Resilio is seriously hurting their reputation by having such nasty bugs continue for months and support just goes silent on the issue.
