  1. Hi everyone, I got a question about how to sync 2 same folders on 2 different clients. Maybe this situation is a little hard to describe. I usually use FreeFileSync to sync my files. I got one PC, one MBP and a portable HD external disk as the "files transit point". What I did before is to run FFS between MBP and portable HDD before I got off the work. And first thing after I got home is to run FFS from my PC to sync my HDD with the PC in home. Though this is a little foolish, but this method is really reliable and transparent to me. So after getting familiar with Resilio Sync after around half a year, I hope Sync could played the same role in above situation, taking the place of my previous portable HDD. What I am asking here is that whether I could sync 2 same folders already existed on my 2 different clients? Rather than waiting Sync to transfer all the files from one client to another one..... Now I usually doing now is share one folder (from client A) with owner permission, when the other client(client B) started the syncing process, I just disconnected the sync progress(client B) and link the folder which already existed on the client B( this folder is exactly the same like the one on client A). I just don't know whether is right for what I am doing here? @Helen Thanks in advance, and hope to here from you guys on the forum.
  2. I used Sync for about half a year, and now i'm using RC 2.4. I synced my important photos and movie clip of my daily files. Somehow when I found synced folder's size abnormal, i knew they were moved to the Archive folders. But after a while, I started thinking about whether is right to move those Archived files back to the Synced folder is right. Because I thought Sync moved those files to the Archive for a reason and maybe I shouldn't re-move them back, and maybe, the Missing Files would come back eventually. But just now, I searched on Windows 10, for 0 byte files and found 2-3 of movie files. And the Archive folder is empty!!! OMG, where these files gone? Though I synced about 200gb of my daily of movies, 2-3 is just a tiny part. But this is critical in my opinion b/c I don't know where to find them back.... And I always thought the Sync would never deleted any files really, the what to do with these 0 byte files??? Hope Resilio team designed a mechanism in program to prevent delete ANY files!!! Thanks in advance. And can you guys give me some daily operation rules to prevent data loss?? Really appreciate that. I don't want to go back the days I use a external HD disk and FreeFileSync to sync my data and pics manually, but which seems to be a rather safe way to deal with the critical work and life data. For example, I should never move 0 byte files from Archive folder, and I need to delete them first, and move them back to the normal folder, is that right to do? And I think maybe that's the reason why I got those 2-3 0 byte files, I overwrite them by myself!!! So, please help, and is this the right procedure to do? And for the duplicated files, today I found my folder are filled with lots of files exactly the same as my original files, only with the files to be add ".1" or ".2", why this happened? You can see as below screencapture pic. I don't know why these files appeared, and those files almost enlarge my synced about double capacity. Today after 3 of my peers synced with each other for about 20 hrs, I found the size of folders are wired larger than its original size, and that's why I turned to open my folders and found these duplicated files.
  3. @stonerlThanks for replay. I also got 2 VPS, on is location in the US, the other one is within China mainland. But the HD capacity is only about 20 or 40 GB, and price to enlarge the HD is not smart for NAS usage. So I just used them to be the PREDEFINED host. Yes, I use a Intel I5 laptop with Centos 7, and a 1TB portable external HD with ext4 format. Now RC2 runs great with CPU usage about 40%, when it first start indexing large amount of files from my other peers, it also reach as high as around 100% or even higher. I didn't surprised and understand that CPU usage. But the bad is the Sync on RPi 3b run almost 105-110% of cpu usage all the time, even after it run over 30-40 hrs when the CentOS laptop's CPU usage already run as low as 40 or 50%. I think maybe either RPi 3B is not designed for high IO, or the ARM version of the Sync got some bugs for program defeat. Yes, the RPi 3b is also got a 1TB external portable HD. @Helen What do you think? Is this b/c the configuration of my RPi is not as good as the laptop or some other reasons? Thanks in advance for any feedback. Above is RPi 3b, and below is Laptop with Intel i5 and CentOS 7. They both got 2.4.0 RC2 and 1TB external portable HD, syncing with the same folders about 200GB.
  4. @stonerl Hi, what platform you used as your mainly Sync client? The "mainly client" I mean here is that I thought a client could always be online, like my RPi is always turned on. But after 2.4.0, I always found that the CPU usage is over 100% on my RPi 3B, so I am considering use an old laptop with centos7 to be new "mainly client", which requires the laptop got to be turned on 24x7.... I thought the Synology NAS would be the best choice, but it really cost a lot of money... Could you share ur Sync usage and recommend some device which are suitable to be 24x7 online in home? Thanks in advance. After using RPi for about half a year, I don't thint RPi 3B is suitable for high I/O application, b/c no matter Sync or SMB, or even FTP service on RPi, the action of upload/download large amounts of files would crash the mount external HDD, which annoyed me a lot.
  5. @Helen I got a question about "Archive" folder. I knew that deleted files were stored in that folder, which means to me that once the files from other clients are deleted, the other sync clients would also deleted the corresponding files but actually moved those files into Archive folder, is that right? So based on that thinking, yesterday night when I use RC2 to sync a large amount of files between 2 of my peers, I found that about 50% capacity of a synced folder (about 150gb) were moved into that Archive folder. I didn't surprise b/c this happened a lot to me. I just thought that for some reasons, the Resilio Sync could not handled those files or some errors happened, what I need to do is just re-moved those files from Archive folder and somehow the Resilio Sync got to process them later. But yesterday, I didn't do that then just go to sleep. When I woke up this morning, I just the Archive folder is empty and all the files were handled right. So Helen, under what condition the ResilioSync would take Archive folder as a temporary place to put files there except the deleted files? Thanks in advance.
  6. Update: 2016 08 31 12:18pm I got fresh install on both of my 2 clients. One is RPi 3b, one is windows 10. The RPi sync runs smooth in the background. But the WEBUI could got no responding, especially when RPi is downloading and indexing large amount of files shared from Windows 10 clients. I tried to open the WEBUI from my iphone, the login pop windows is ok, but freezing after enter the user name and password. So what files you guys need to debug? Thanks for the fast releasing of RC2, glad that it would not crash any more, but not responding is also another problem in my respect. And like as mentioned earlier, if I don't run the fresh installation of my RPi, the rslsync thread may also crash. But that's not the problem i am facing with anymore. @Helen
  7. I am not a professional user but to share my thinking. I think you could first to pausing the sync and then take snapshot of those folders without tmp sync file ext names...Yes, but for those files got not synced yet.. this method is not ideal...
  8. I think in the power user preference, the last item named "peer_expiration_days" is used for that. You can somehow fill shorter days like 2 or 3. Just for my own thinking.
  9. Glad to hear you guys release RC2 so fast. Eager to test it right now. RC1 crash on my RPi, so it's still 2.3.8 on my RPi. Would be happy to reply any bugs. @Helen The Resilio Sync still encounter the crash problem if I use the old database(maybe b/c i synced too many files and folders?) But a fresh installation would run smooth. So I gonna to re-sync all files from my other devices to see whether the Sync on RPi would still crash. 10. @Helen Thanks for ur rapid response. The FOOLMAN is a Windows 10 PC, and I doubled checked the Task Manager of Win10, only one instance of Resilio Sync existed. And Ver is 2.4RC, but that problem started from 2.3.8, which I barely remembered whether or not from earlier version. And yes, the double duplicated name not only existed on the Windows platform. I just checked my Sync on RPI, one of my shared folder got also double duplicated peer names, just like the pic shown below. And I also doubled checked the proc list by command of " ps aux | grep 'tsync' , only one instance there. And this weird thing shown only for random folder, when I clicked other folders to check, only the folder above got the 2 duplicated peer name. This time, the version of SYNC on RPi is 2.3.8.(For 2.4 RC crashed, i downgrade to former version to keep my files sync working.) And yes, i would try to gather the logs and send them to you. Thanks again.
  11. Not sure whether the problem i described here is a bug or something I understood wrong. Everytime I clicked on "peer list" of every folder I synced among my different compuers, TWO SAME PEER NAME always appear within the list. This happens on every computer. The pics linked below showed what I am saying here. And one more thing is that 2.4 RC always crash after a while on my Raspberry PI 3B. The OSX and WINDOWS 10 seems got no such problem. I checked the log in /home/pi/.sync/sync.log, seems got nothing about crash. And now I don't know whether I need to downgrade to 2.3.8 or not. I download the linux ARM version. Hope to get your back soon. Thanks in advance.
