Not all files are synced? (How to count and compare files)

I'm not sure, if all of my files got synced.

On Windows 8.1, and on Windows XP I use "properties" with the right mousekey ("Eigenschaften"). On both PC "hidden system files" and "hidden files and folders" are shown.

I count all files, but not the folders ".SyncArchive" and ".Trashes".

Windows 8.1:

164GB, 172951 files, 25107 folders

Windows XP:

164 GB, 172901 files, 25107 folders.

So I am missing 50 files on XP.

bittorrent sync counts 164,1 GB in 168966 files on each of these PC.

  • Which files/folders does BTSync count and which files/folders not?
  • How can I find the 50 missing files on XP?
  • How can I test that there are the same files on each PC (over the internet)? (I also use FreeNAS 9.1.)
  • How can I "force" syncing, so that the amount of files are the same on each PC?

Thanks for any advance.

Does BTSync show that both folders are in sync?

If not, enable debug logging and check the log file (%Appdata%\BitTorrent Sync\sync.log)

This has always helped me if there were any issues.

If BTSync shows that your Devices are in sync than all Clients have the same files.
BTSync makes no difference if they are connected via LAN or WAN - at least when it comes to syncing.

To my knowledge there is no "force" sync. *

If your clients are not in sync, check the debug log and solve the issue. (I've had issues with case sensitiv file names and access rights.)

(*sometimes I would like to have some kind of force feature too :) )

I think there should be implemented much more monitoring - and force resync must be added. It would be suberb to see how much files and size has the org. Folder ... and what is the exact status on the remote pcs. Also it would be a good thing to see how fast are the other PCs are transfering files (up+down). In actual status i use to "readd" the folders from time to time to get a resync done on the remote clients. Also using "touch" to modify the dates of the r/w client files is a solution - or better it is a workarround to get all files synced ... so all files are detected as "new" and a resync to all clients is forced.
