"you Don't Have Enough Permissions To Share Part Of A Read-Only Folder. Please Choose Another Folder."

I'm new to playing with BT sync and I recently setup a ~188GB folder to sync on my laptop. I then went to another machine on my LAN, added a new folder and copied the Read Only key to it. When I clicked OK, I got the error "You don't have enough permissions to share part of a read-only folder. Please choose another folder." This is odd because I have another subdirectory in the same parent directory that has a folder that syncs just fine.

 

What can cause this?

I am having exactly same problem. It occurs when I am trying to backup my iphone5. Here are the steps:

 

On iphone:

p1. tap Backup

p2. Tap enable

p3. email secret

 

on computer:

c1. Add folder to sync

c2. enter secret from step p3 above

c3. choose destination folder to sync and bam ! there you see the error

What is your folder layout like? Current shares and the new share.

I've had a similar thing. I had a folder /x/y that was shared. Then I created /x/y/z as a shared folder. Didn't work.

I removed /x/y as a shared folder and then added /x/y/z. Works fine.

 

I think you cannot make a subfolder of a shared folder shared again.

That is right. Not sure if that was the issue in their case (but most likely). They never came back.

this does not make sense to be because in https://github.com/vole/vole which requires btsync it says:
 

• Grab the read-only ID of the person you want to follow. A directory is in progress at vole.cc. Why not start with Vole Team updates? Our key is RA32XLBBHXMWMECGJAJSJMMPQ3Z2ZGR7K.
• Find the Vole users folder. Unless you changed the defaults, it will be in a directory called Vole/users in your home folder.
• Create a new folder in Vole/users, you should name it after the user that you're about to follow. For example, Vole/users/voleteam.
• In BitTorrent Sync, add this new folder as a shared folder, using the read-only key you grabbed in step 1. Instructions are available on their site and vary a little by operating system.

You don't add /Vole or /Vole/Users in BTSync

only /Vole/Users/user1

 /Vole/Users/user2

 /Vole/Users/user2

and so on.
