I also get this error:

$systemctl --user enable resilio-sync
Failed to get D-Bus connection: No such file or directory

Any idea what's going wrong?

oh my, errors on RPI1 have been discussed quite a time here on forum, and the problem is that you need to actually use arm architecture, not armhf that RPi1 automatically requests from the repo.

You can use the solution from here. yes, it related to yet old BitTorrent Sync, but the core idea is the same - download the arm binary manually and replace it.
Or you can use the the solution from the guide. Though this may affect other packages - they will be also trying to install arm.

I guess, you run it as root, don't do that.

Well I'm trying to install on a Raspberry Pi 2, following the instructions here (and have successfully installed on a RasPi 3 already) and I get the same error:

Job for resilio-sync.service failed. See 'systemctl status resilio-sync.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details.
invoke-rc.d: initscript resilio-sync, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing package resilio-sync (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

isn't is the same as @zczcz reported initially?!  and did you try the suggestion that worked?

Yes, but I am unable to install arm architecture. I get:

Failed to fetch http://mirrordirector.raspbian.org/raspbian/dists/jessie/InRelease Unable to find expected entry 'main/binary-armel/Packages' in Release file

As stated, I am on a Raspberry Pi 2. Not a 1.

After a completely fresh install (on a new SD card), I'm hitting the same error, but now just this:

Job for resilio-sync.service failed. See 'systemctl status resilio-sync.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details

systemctl status resilio-sync.service gives the following:

resilio-sync.service - Resilio Sync service
   Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/resilio-sync.service; enabled)
Active: failed (Result: start-limit) since Sat 2017-05-20 12:52:49 UTC; 41min ago
     Docs: http://help.getsync.com/

I am following the instructions here to the letter.
