  1. How do you update sync ? Can I just replace the executable and it will automatically pick up the .sync folder ?

    Running raspbian on a pi2.

I already answer you this here like an hour ago. Can we just not have a conversation across 20 threads? http://forum.bittorrent.com/topic/41318-problem-installing-btsync-222-on-raspberry/#entry111863

But gladly, again for everybody in this thread: Download ARM package, locate the BitTorrent Sync binary on your pi, extract the binary from the ARM package, replace the file. Done. Of course you should stop BitTorrent Sync prior to all of that.

Reason: If you have btsync configured with a different storage path, btsync will start again with that configuration file since you are just replacing an already existing installation with the latest build.

If you have not done such configuration, btsync will use .sync in the same dir as the executable/binary.

    Meaning: Nothing will change.

  2. Nothing special. It is the way it's packaged.

The .deb file has also the /etc/init.d/btsync script in it etc - You can take a look yourself if you want to.

It is the ARM binary packaged so it's "easier" for users to install.

I myself just took out the init script and have my own install/update/backup script on my Pi

But the .deb has the ARM package inside of it.

  3. Guys let's not forget that there is a .deb package for the pi http://forum.bittorrent.com/topic/41316-latest-desktop-build-223/

There is also a blog post on it http://blog.bittorrent.com/2015/09/04/sync-wd-raspberry-pi-2/

If you want the latest binary: Do what mintwurm said. Install the .deb package and then download the ARM binary and replace the btsync binary in your installation folder with the new one.

It's also always good to take a look at help.getsync.com to see how to setup the configuration file of BitTorrent Sync

  4. Sadly you can't, if you have one identity with multiple machines, separate shares. Meaning that if you add a share, 1.4 or newer, it will show up on all machines using the identity of yours. If you have multiple Identities, you can have multiple with your pro license, THEN you will be able to separate it.

Then it is like with any other BitTorrent Sync user: you have to send a link or QR to add a folder to your other machine - since it is in a different identity.

Did that help? If not, please let us know here since there are other people that might be better at explaining things :)

  5. Are you running the latest version as of now? It is 2.2.3 and you can get it here from this thread: http://forum.bittorrent.com/topic/41316-latest-desktop-build-223/

There has been issues with the mode not sticking to it's configured state.

Please make sure to update all your machines to the latest version and test again.

If you still encounter errors let us know here and we'll try to help figure it out :)

  6. @all

I'm very interested in this, too.
Since you can only activate 10 devices with a personal Pro license, I would like to know wether a dead and unlinked device still counts as one of those activations. How can I reclaim an activation ? Or rather: What happens if I run out of activations because my profile is cluttered by unused devices.

For example: hdd crash -> complete reinstallation + new activation.
If this happens ten times, is the pro license then void ?

He got a response from one of the support people at Sync.

The link to the post with the response is here where he corrects the statement quoted here.
