jmstacey
Are extended attributes handled, and if so, to what extent? For example, are resource forks synced between HFS+ file systems? Things could get tricky editing files across platforms. If this isn't supported yet, I would like to add it to the wishlist, as a must have before use. kos13
Sync doesn't synchronize extended attributes.
sab34
Another request for supporting xattr (in the way dropbox does, given they too sync across platforms...).
sab34
So, with OS X Mavericks on the near horizon and its implementation of tags (http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/#tags), xattr support is likely to become essential for a much wider section of current and potential BTSync users... hypercat
Support for extended attributes is essential for me for BTSync to become my primary sync tool. Please add support for extended attribute syncing!
RomanZ
Hi hypercat, We plan to add extended attributes sync. Sorry, can't provide ETA for now.
sab34
A follow-up on xattrs. They have been supported for some time now; but are they synced to encrypted nodes as well?
RomanZ
@sab34 They should be synced to encrypted nodes. Though, they are not - which is and issue and will be fixed.
sab34
Thanks Roman -- I wasn't sure if this was due to host server configuration problems or to BTSync itself. Can you provide an ETA for the support of xattr by encrypted nodes?
RomanZ
@sab34 We'll do our best to fix it within 1-2 weeks. Though this ETA is very vague and I can't confirm 100% that we'll stick to it.
sab34
@ RomanZIs 1.4.99 supposed to have addressed this? So far I'm not seeing a difference, but don't want to reset all my syncs until it's worth it... Thanks!
RomanZ
@sab34Nope, it is not in 1.4.99 - see change log. Sorry.
bouillon
I have here now 2.0.0-2.Something moved in this story? For me is btsync unusable without syncing Extended Attributes because I tag my files and Folders (( Edited September 7, 2015 by bouillon
RomanZ
@bouillonYes, now Sync supports xattrs, although only white-listed ones. See this article for details.
bouillon
From article: Linux: xattr names MUST start with namespace (.used, .system, etc.) and cannot store more data than 1 filesystem block (usually 4Kb) I Use KDE, and KDE (tags) attributes begins normally with user. Here is an example: :~/Downloads$ getfattr -d KG1.pdf # file: KG1.pdfuser.baloo.rating="10"user.xdg.comment="LLALALALA"user.xdg.origin.url="http://www.kindergeld.org/download/KG1.pdf"user.xdg.referrer.url="http://www.kindergeld.org/formulare.html"user.xdg.tags="VASILIJ" Seems KDE tagging and btsync are not compatible...Is it very difficult too add support for user attributes?Or whats is a problem to support all attributes? RomanZ
@bouillonTry locating "StreamsList" file (it resides in hidden .sync subfolder in the folder you synchronize), edit it and add a lineuser.*Do it on both computers, restart Syncs, see if now requested xattrs are synced.
