Worth noting that the chances of "randomly" guessing your key are so small as to be effectively zero. Like we're talking far, far less than one in a trillion. Absolutely not worth worrying about. Just keep it safe like you keep your passwords safe and you have no issues. If you get the PRO version, you can revoke access even after sharing a link.

I was thinking about this and I can see where you're coming from. But personally, I feel like the correct protection against ransomware or other massive data protection is simply proper backups. E.g. keeping historical copies of changed files for 1 year. Having the feature in Resilio would make the software more complex, could possibly be annoying in cases of false-positives, and doesn't help any other scenario (e.g. files synced via other services). Having solid backups in place means all data and all sync services are equally protected with no additional overhead attached to each service.

@elg I would say that depending on your use case and hardware, Resilio Sync may still be the best option for you. I'm running a relatively modest sync setup (~10 folders, ~10 GB, ~5 peers) on 5-year-old hardware on Big Sur, and while it does get in the way when I'm doing something else super processor/memory intensive, I don't have issues day-to-day. I don't know if the present issue gets worse with larger or more demanding setups. However, I do fear for the future of the product if data/shares get larger over time and performance gets worse. There are already things I'd like to do with Resilio (e.g. sync large photo libraries between laptop and home server) which I won't try because I can't spare the idle resources.

It means that it will run natively on both Intel Macs (i.e. ones released before this year) and ARM Macs (ones released this year). They don't appear to have made any functional changes apart from that, so it hasn't addressed the RAM/CPU issue you linked.

@elg Resilio hasn't had an update since my original post (or a very long time before that — the product seems abandoned?). I don't have the very latest patch to Big Sur, but based on my experience with 11.2 the problem remains, though anecdotally CPU usage returns to 0 when Resilio is idle with no changes for a long time (days). I've not recently seen it peak up to the massive 6GB memory I've seen previously, but it hovers at around 600–700MB when idle.

I totally agree. It’s a really solid and well-designed piece of software, and these issues are just due to the change in OS environment. But for people to keep using it, it has to be maintained, and it doesn’t really look like it is being at the moment.

@Ken 5 or 6 on my Big Sur machine, with a combined footprint of under 10GB, and a total of maybe 5 peers among all.

I reinstalled Sync and it still has this issue.

Ok, so for anyone having a similar problem: I reinstalled Resilio and re-added the folder. No change. So I created a new folder on the Big Sur machine and shared that to the Mojave machine, then transferred the contents on the Mojave machine, and now it successfully synced back to the Big Sur machine. So if you have control over all peers, this may help you. If you don't, you may be SOL.

Ya, so just added a new synced folder on Big Sur and it sits empty while Sync app happily says it's synced with all peers. (It should contain 1.5GB of files and folders). As above, Sync on Mojave machine shows a green tick but also "^ 8000 files to [Big Sur]" when drilling down. So Sync essentially not working at all on Big Sur for me. Any hint this is a widespread issue? Any word from Resilio regarding updates on the roadmap? I, like, need a file sync solution to do my job, so I guess I'm forced to find an alternative now. I'll check back with Sync next time there's an update I guess?

On Big Sur, I'm finding I return to my computer to find a "Resilio Sync unexpectedly quit" notice up. Also Sync is using consistently at least 600MB of memory, and sometimes higher, and often 20+% CPU, to sit idle. (Mid-spec iMac 2017.) No issues with Mojave. What can I do to troubleshoot this? (Bonus question: With no updates or signs of life from the company in months, in the middle of an Apple architecture transition, and when millions are relying on remote file sharing more than ever... is Resilio Sync dead and should I look for an alternative?)

I've used Sync between 5 Macs running Mojave and older, successfully, for a while. Just updated one to BigSur, and it won't receive some files. Mojave computer (with files) shows BigSur peer connected, shows a green tick, but clicking on peer list shows "^ 1008 files to [BigSur]. They are all tiny text files, .plist, .json, 40kB and under. BigSur computer (needs files) shows Mojave peer connected, shows a green tick, peer list shows "Synced with [Mojave]". But the folder has 1000s of missing files. Same thing happens with other folders, including those with big files, .pdfs. Other folders seem to work fine. Are there known bugs with Big Sur? What can I do to troubleshoot this?
