Dahaniel
Hey, i have the same problem with a Western Digital MybookLive NAS. btsync is preventig it from hibernating. In addition to the .SyncID file I thing the sync.log is also a problem as it gets updated almost every second with "Incoming connection from... " messages. 0xdefec
hi! i can confirm this bug. btsync keeps active on my ds 412+ and thus stops the system from going to hibernation. the hibernation log reads:Jan 24 15:11:48 NAS kernel: [ 2171.580154] [/usr/local/btsync/var/settings.dat] opened by pid 11653 [u:(/usr/local/btsync/bin/btsync), comm:(btsync)]Jan 24 15:13:35 NAS kernel: [ 2278.198996] [/usr/local/btsync/var/sync.dat.new] opened by pid 11660 [u:(/usr/local/btsync/bin/btsync), comm:(btsync)]i'm running the latest ds software (DSM 4.3-3810 Update 4) and BTSync Version 1.2.82. I have only one shared folder and it's readonly, so there is absolutely no need for BTSync to access the files (they won't change unless BTSync changes them because of an external update). With this bug BTSync is not useable, the DS would keep running 24/7 without any need.. =(

0xdefec
are there any updates on this?
RomanZ
0xdefec, Yes. Please try 1.3.80, BTSync became more friendly towards sleeping HDDs. Make sure you set folder_rescan_interval to larger value to make sure HDDs are not waken up by rescan.
0xdefec
hi! where do i find btsync 1.3.80 for linux? i can only find 1.3.77 at http://www.bittorrent.com/intl/de/sync/downloads  thanks!

Dahaniel
My WD MyBookLive also won't spin down with 1.3.80... @0xdefec: how do you read out the access times? What logfile is this?
0xdefec
i'm currently investigating another issue on this synology unit which might correlate with the hibernation. so please ignore my last message until i know for sure it's related to btsync. @dahaniel there is an option in synology NAS to debug hibernation issues. 0xdefec
nope, sorry. disabling btsync --> NAS goes to sleep after 10 minutes. enabling btsyns --> no sleep. I could reproduce this several times. The logs from above are still correct, some files get accessed every 10 minutes although folder rescan interval is set very high. I disabled the webui and set the config via file:{ "device_name": "NAS", "listening_port": 55555, "storage_path": "/usr/local/btsync/var", "pid_file": "/usr/local/btsync/var/syncapp.pid", "check_for_updates": false, "use_upnp": false, "folder_rescan_interval": 43200, "shared_folders" : [ { "secret" : "XXX", "dir" : "/volume1/andreas/cloud/", "use_relay_server" : false, "use_tracker" : false, "use_dht" : false, "search_lan" : false, "use_sync_trash" : true } ]}

RomanZ
All, Could you please share couple of your debug logs so we can see which events trigger syndID read in your case? Thanks!
0xdefec
Hi RomanZ, I noticed many hash IDs in the debug logs. before I post them here, could any information from the debug logs be used to access files from the shared folders? or any other privacy issues? thanks for your help!
RomanZ
0xdefec, It can't. ShareID is not a secret and cannot be used to access your shares. Your debug log is going to reveal IP addresses, files and folder names. You can throw it to my PM if you don't want to reveal it to public. Native Advertisement
Where can I set the the rescan interval on an Synology? There is a sync.conf in /var/packages/btsync/target/var but even as root I can't open it.
mdovey
BTSync 1.3.94 still prevents disk hibernation on Synology NAS's. It looks like it is still writing sync.dat.new every 10 minutes regardless of the setting of the rescan interval. Any chance of a resolution or a configuration setting for when btsync writes sync.dat Matthew
RomanZ
Matthew, Thanks for reporting - we are aware of this issue and area looking for ways to resolve it in upcoming 1.4.
ajax
I'm having the same problem with my Synology NAS. Since installing BTsync, my HDDs no longer go into deep sleep and hibernate anymore. It's rather frustrating. I've decided to disabled BTsync and stop using it until this issue is resolved. Are the developers confident the problem will be fixed in 1.4? Is there any news in regards to this?
fxp
Same issue on 1.3.109 on a DS213+. HDDs don't hibernate any more. When I disable btsync, they do.
Helen
@all, Please, wait for 1.4. release and give it a try. If the problem remains, write to syncapp@bittorrent.com right away. Don't forget to attach full debug logs from NAS, describe your setup in details, put the link to this topic. Hibernation logs would be much appreciated. Thank you!
