  1. The relay-server is a server hosted by bittorrent itself (if i understood it correctly). Normally clients should be able to sync over the internet without problema. But if the port you are using is blocked or only predefined ports are allowed (like in companies, schools e.t.c.) you can enable the relaysever. Your data are then streamed to the relayserver (standing somewewhere in the USA i guess, did a traceroute), which then sends them to the destination. Like a proxy. By the way: Remember to restart btsync for changes in configuration to get applied
  2. As @Harold Feit mentioned before it seems not realistic to have high cpu load in this scenario But we can't say for sure. We would need a log of the cpu load as evidence, but i dont think they have this log. Maybe i am a little bit pessimistic about this, but i think that it is more likely they shut him down for general torrenting. It's like some ISP are still trying to block or slow down traffic from torrenting and P2P in general But yes, he should read the terms and conditions and his package-details :3
  3. Just do clarify: They didn't block the traffic, they analysed it and suspended his account, if i understood him correct. Right, @qrbs ?
  4. The story with Hosting-Providers and torrents is an old story. In my opinion they think, you are using their Service to downloda and spread illegal files (movies e.t.c.) via Torrent. Just write them, that you are using a legal and normal application for file-synchronisation. And maybe you read through their terms and conditions, just so you can write them, where they maybe misunderstood your application. But file-synchronisation isn't illegal and it is done over millions of ways in the internet. spYro
  5. Uh. Maybe BTsync gets confused with the "Alias"-Folder in Windows? Like "C:\Benutzer" (in german versions) is in reallity "c:\users" and so on? I know that the same thing is happening with the predefined document-folder. Maybe this confuses BTsync somehow :/
  6. Problem solved. We have a little bit difficult setup with firewall, vpn, vlans, modems and so on. If i open the path for btsync through all of it, they can connect directly. But now we changed our plan and dont want the peers to see and connect to each other. This is now easy. Thanks for your answer
  7. Hi there, just to let you know about this: I just deinstalled BTsync (actual version at the moment) and i check "delete settings", but c:\users\blabla\appdata\roaming\bittorrentsync is still there, with 2 files left (log and sync.pid). If you can verify this and fix this, it would be cool. It's a veriy minor thing, still it's a bug Best wishes spYro edit: This happens in Windows 7 &8, 64 Bit
  8. Oh, thanks for that answer So... our clients always have the cloud-icon.... But now i wonder why? They all should have direct access to each other... I will check that tomorrow and see, if i can get direct connections
  9. are relayservers enabled/allowed in your 2 clients? there is a know bug in speedlimits when relayservers are enabled, if i remember correctly :/
  10. you could try to move the files ro the windows music-folder (or video). they all have some special behaviour sometimes. If they dont sync well too, it really could be windows itself. if they sync, maybe its some buggy thing only with the documents folder :/ Gesendet von meinem GT-I9505 mit Tapatalk
  11. Hi there, before i start, a small description about my current setup: 6 PCs in Germany (windows 8, 64 Bit)All connected via VPNAll running the latest version (1.3.106)One of these PCs is calles "SRV", the other 5 (call them A,B,C,D,E) have all only the read-only secret of SRVAll have the same configuration:==> NaT-UPnP-Port-Mapping enabled==> Relay-Servers, Trackerservers, Localnetwork-search, DHT are all disabledNo proxies are used hereWith this configuration the clients are syncing with SRV without any problem, BUT they are not syncing with each other. They don't even see each other as devices. Only "SRV" is listed (though surely, SRV has all deviced in the list). If we now activate "allow relayserver" on all clients an restart btsync, after a few secounds, they all see each other as deviced and start to sync with each other. The Other devices listet have the relay-symbol next to them. (I just add this here: The bug of the speedlimit not applying to relayserver-connections is known and will be fixed shortly?) My question now: Why don't they see each other when relayservers are disabled? We sure have a firewall running (pfSense), but all of these clients have a rule to have completely unrestricted acces to the internet. Is this something that is meant to be this way? From the description of the relay-servers, i would assume that they are just a workaround if it doesn't work without them (due to firewall-limitations). Please help me understanding this Best wishes spYro
  12. Chill it, ladies @topic: This sure will work, but i think it is a little... uh... oversized for just gettign the external ip. You could use Dyndns (one host is free to my knowlegde), but you also could write a small script, that your uncle just has to start from desktop. This script then will get the external IP and send id via mail to you. This will surely only work, if he is on the PC. If we are talking about you taking control via VNC regardless of him being there, i refer to my DynDNS-Solution Though i dont think, your solution is the easiest way, i still appreciate your way of solving this with btsync Best wishes spYro
  13. Hi. I am using btsync (newest version, 1.3.106) on a few computers (windos 8, 64 bit), spreaded around germany and connected via VPN. I now realised, that the logging ("chronic" on GUI) doesn't show up the actual changes correctly. I don't know, if this is already in fixing but i didn't see a thread about this. Many changes are logged there, but some changes (adding new small txt-file to sync.folder or deleting some small files) aren't shown up there BUT they are still synced correctly. This happens not only on one computer, it happens on at least 2 and i think it will happen on every computer. Already known? Need more Information about this? Hope to get this small bug fiyed Best wishes spYro
  14. I was about to create a new thread, but lucky this one aldready exists Adding up to "Helen": The Speed-Limit is working perfectly with me (Version 1.3.106, newest Version at this time). BUT: It is somehow overwritten, if i enable/allow the relay-server. If i enable them, regardless of rate_limit_local_peers, the speedlimit seems to be ignored in total. My limit was 10 (kb/s) up and down but with relayservers it goes way beyond 300 kb/s. I think that this is a bug. I am creating a new thread about some other question regarding relayservers, maaaybe at some point i get to the solution. But try disabling relay-servers (if your setting and work-environment allow it). Best wishes spYro
  15. I would recommend to take all other devices offline and backup the data. Then you delete all files in the sync-folder and wait for the illegal device to sync. After that you create a new share and so get a new token. You spread this new token to the new devices and start new. Sure, this is only an option, if this isn't too much to ask for (don't know, how many devices are there to change them manually) Maybe an easier way: - Get the external ip of the illegal device. - Make a Firewall-Rule and block it (yes, this will only work for maximum of 24 hours, cause then his IP changes maybe) - Delete EVERY file in your sync-folder (make sure to make backup first) and put one readme.txt in the sync.folder, which describes the current situation with information about the new share-token and so on.... - Then, after a few devides have synced, shutdown this server and create the new share with the nre token. If you go this way, everybody, who notices that all files are missing, has the readme.txt with further information and the new token. Hope, this is of any help Best wishes spYro
  16. First Thing that comes to my mind: - Create a new folder with the same name somewhere on your computer - Edit your btsync, so it does only sync the new folder - Start to copy files and subfolders from the original folder to the new folder and watch for btsync. At what point will it stop to sync? will it ever stop to sync? What files are the first ones that arent synced? - Let your btsync have around 1-2 Minutes for each sync as maximum (if you didnt change the settings like folder-rescan). By the way, there are file-types, that are excluded: .DS_Store.DS_Store?._*.Spotlight-V100.Trashesehthumbs.dbdesktop.iniThumbs.db Just keep that in mind. Look into the sync-log, located at:c:\your_username\appdata_oraming_bittorrent sync\sync.log If this doenst help you, post the last part of the sync-log here (you may hide IPs if you want). Best wishesspYro
  17. You wouldn't copy it there to have it deletet. It is more about some user placing files there accidentally. And if you would "spam" the Sync-Folder with misplaced files and folders, nobody would know, what files do belong there. Furhermore i (and i think many others) would feel more relaxed about the whoel sync-machanism, if they can be sure, that the sync-folder on Slave is EXACTLY and bit-for-bit the content of Master
  18. I would love to get an answer to that too. About a year ago, i wrote to the legal-team of Bittorrent, regarding the EULA of utorrent. I wrote them, that we are a company and want to know about using utorrent in our company for free. The answer was, that we can't BUT she wrote me about Bittorrentsync and if that maybe would be intreesting for us. I looked into it and it wasn't interesting to that time. Things have changed and now we want to try and use it. Since she knew about our will to use it in a company and still mentioned it, so we can use it, would tell me, it is allowed in company usage. We are working to implement and test with it at the moment, but if it isnt allowed (for free) in our company, please tell it fast. Then we will just look for an alternative that is free in business-usage. Thanks in advance spYro edit: I just saw this link here (http://www.heise.de/download/bittorrent-sync-1191510.html). There it says its free (for companies too, "Preis: Kostenlos"). Otherwise there would be "kostenlos (nur für den privaten Gebrauch)". So it seems that also other sites are praising it as completely free. One reason more for clarification
  19. Hi there, i am using btsync on 2 computers, lets call them "Master" and "Slave". Master has many files in the sync-folder, which should be mirrored to Slave. I configured both the way it's meant to be, so Slave has only read-access. The syncing is working perfect. I now copy a new file into the sync-folder of Slave and it is not synced back to the Master, which also is correct. But i would like the new file to be deleted the next time both PCs sync, because it is not in the sync-folder of Master. I hope you get me here If i create or copy some files on Slave, they should only last a few secounds and then be deleted by the sync. I want to have Master's Files on Slave, and not a single file more! Is this possible? Best wishes spYro
