  1. What's your OS and what version of Internet Explorer is installed? Hint: Please see the "Important Notes" section in the first post in this thread
  2. To my knowledge (I'm happy to be corrected), there is no "official" (i.e. BitTorrent Inc developed/produced) dedicated Synology package, however a Synology package is available via https://synocommunity.com/ (Current version of Sync listed there appears to be v1.3.109-3) ...or you can manually setup Sync on a Synology NAS using official sources by following instructions in this blog post Finally, this thread may also be of interest.
  3. Because it hasn't been "officially" supported for some time, and therefore hasn't been "dropped" as such for 1.4 - it just no longer works!
  4. BTSync "officially" stopped supporting portable versions as of Sync 1.2.82. "Unofficially", however, the latest build of 1.3 (1.3.109) still works in "portable mode"... but as I say, this is "unofficial". During alpha testing of 1.4, testers found - like you - that "portable mode" crashes. Sadly, as this mode is no longer officially supported there's no resolution/fix - you'd have to stick with 1.3.109 if you require portability. However, I'd suggest adding your voice/support for bringing back "portable mode" in this thread over in the Feature Requests forum.
  5. The History window can be accessed by clicking the icon which looks like a clock face near the top-right of the window:
  6. You misunderstand - by "web based", I mean HTML based. It requires IE9 (or later) to be installed on Windows, however, the HTML/Javascript/CSS components which make up the new web UI in Sync 1.4 are served "locally" - you do not need an internet connection in order to use the UI.
  7. Hi Folks, Sync 1.4.72 is now available for manual download from the main site (or via direct links here) Note: This build isn't yet available via auto-update New in 1.4 New simplified UI UI was fully revised and now looks similar on all platforms. Also, UI was simplified significantly to make Sync usage faster, more understandable and convenient.HTTPS links support HTTPS links can be produced by Sync, shared over non-secure channels and used on remote peer to exchange Keys securely, using X.509 certificatesProxy server support added Direct connection is possible if only one of two peers resides behind the proxy thoughFinder / Explorer integration added Right-clicking the folder in Explorer / Finder exposes "Share with BitTorrent Sync" item, which adds the folder to Sync and automatically generates a Key (Secret).Moved folders support Sync tracks if synced folder moves and automatically adjusts paths to keep folder synced.Sync performance optimization Affects data transfer speed, CPU consumption, peers discovery.Numerous bug fixes found by users in 1.3 The previous build change log (1.3.109) may be found here. Important Notes on Sync 1.4: Downgrade to 1.3 is not possible after installing Sync 1.4. (If you wish to downgrade - please uninstall Sync removing all settings, then install 1.3 and configure all folders from scratch) For Windows XP/Vista/Server 2003 users: DO NOT INSTALL SYNC 1.4 - it's not fully compatible with these operating systems at this time. Please use Sync 1.3.109 instead, which is compatible with Sync 1.4. For Windows Server 2008 users: Sync 1.4 requires Internet Explorer 9 (or later). Windows Server 2008 originally shipped with IE7 (R2 with IE8). If you've never updated from IE7/8, Sync 1.4 will not function correctly (the UI will be blank). Updating to the latest version of Internet Explorer resolves this. For Windows 7 users: Sync 1.4 requires Internet Explorer 9 (or later). Windows 7 originally shipped with IE8. If you've never updated from IE8, Sync 1.4 will not function correctly (the UI will be blank). Updating to the latest version of Internet Explorer resolves this.
  8. Sync all your devices to the same internet Timeserver. The issue is unlikely to be the timezone, but rather one or more devices will be incorrect within whichever timezone it's in. Syncing all your device's clocks to the same internet Timeserver should resolve your issue.
  9. I'm fully aware of that, however this same issue also affects XP, and therefore for the benefit of any other forum members viewing this thread and running XP, I've provided the answer for them as well Windows 7 shipped with IE8. IE8 isn't supported by Sync 1.4. If you've never updated IE on your Windows 7 machine and are still running IE8, this will be the cause of the blank UI. The UI in Sync 1.4 is essentially web-based, and requires a minimum of IE9. If your friends are running Windows 7 with either IE9,10,or 11, they won't have this issue.
  10. If you're referring to Sync 1.4, Peers will continue to be listed in the UI for 7 days since they were last seen/online, after which they will then disappear from the UI. This setting may be changed via the new advanced "peer_expiration_days" setting.
  11. If you're running Windows XP, Vista, or Windows Server 2003, sorry, but Sync 1.4 won't fully work for you and will cause a blank UI. Users of these OS's will need to run Sync 1.3.109 instead. If however, you're running Windows 7, please ensure that Internet Explorer is up to date on your machine, as this should resolve your issue.
  12. Android apps can't use permissions that aren't explicitly granted, and can't "hide" permissions from users. i.e. if the permission isn't listed, it isn't required/used by an app. Which of the above permissions do you believe give Sync access to your phone numbers or calls?
  13. Did you download from the official Android app store? The permissions required for the Android app are as follows: Identity find accounts on the devicePhotos/Media/Files modify or delete the contents of your USB storage test access to protected storageCamera/Microphone take pictures and videosWi-Fi connection information view Wi-Fi connectionsOther receive data from Internet view network connections full network access run at startup prevent device from sleeping
  14. A couple of questions for you; on which OS is Sync 1.4 crashing for? ...and are there any Sync 1.2 clients in your mesh? (there was a know issue where the presence of 1.2 clients in a 1.4 mesh could cause 1.4 clients to crash)
  15. You can obtain static links for the latest builds for all platforms via: http://www.bittorrent.com/sync/download For example, the latest Linux x64 build can be obtained via http://download-new.utorrent.com/endpoint/btsync/os/linux-x64/track/stable
  16. I know - I have raised it - it's not very clear! http://www.bittorrent.com/sync/ is worse - the "Download Sync" button on that page downloads 1.4 even if you're on XP/Vista/Win2k3! It will.. just be aware that there's no direct "downgrade" route from 1.4 to 1.3.109 - if you've installed 1.4 and wish to revert to 1.3, you'll need to completely uninstall 1.4, remove all settings, reinstall 1.3.109 and then setup all your folders again! - not ideal! ...and all the more reason why it needs to be made clearer that 1.4 isn't fully compatible with XP/Vista/Win2k3
  17. @hawkeye - Sync 1.4 doesn't fully run on WinXP/Vista/2k3 - please see this post.
  18. @ade_m, Sync 1.4 is now fully available to all! (not yet through auto-update though) - so head on over to http://www.bittorrent.com/sync/download to download!
  19. @all, Proxy support has been added for Sync 1.4
  20. @all, the ability to manually "approve" peers/devices is now present in Sync 1.4
  21. @all, the ability to manually "approve" peers/devices is now present in Sync 1.4
  22. I have some bad news for you I'm afraid, Mike. Having just spoken with the devs, they've confirmed that they've decided not to support XP for Sync 1.4. Whilst XP is a now an "obsolete" OS (i.e. no longer supported by Microsoft), there's no word yet on whether other OS's that fall between XP and 7 (Win2k3, Vista, etc) - and which are still supported by Microsoft - will eventually go on to be supported in 1.4 at some point - they're not right now! You may wish to start a thread over in the Feature Requests forum to express desire for such support, so that the developers can gauge how much interest there is for Sync 1.4 for Win2k3/Vista. For now, XP, Vista, and 2K3 users will need to stick with Sync 1.3.109
  23. No, if you manually copy your data across first, when you then add both locations to Sync, Sync will index the locations and realize their contents are identical, and so nothing will transfer.
  24. @witchdoctor, this hasn't been implemented yet, however, you may wish to add your voice to this thread and/or this thread over in the Feature Requests forum.
