  1. This is one feature I have discussed as well. The way BTSYNC is designed is such that a folder share/sync is not one to one, but a mesh. if you 'share(sync)' a folder with more than one peer the software automatically creates the mesh that has ALL peers communicating together synchronising the files within the folder between all of the peers. This is the basis of the software, not a feature. This (I think) is why it is called BTSync, not BTBackup or BTShare (please correct me Devs if I am wrong here)
  2. NO !! (shock horror!!) I have actually tried 2.0 Pro and it simply doesn't work, so it is an irrelevant question for me. One folder or twenty is irrelevant on a broken app paid for or not. How many apps do we all download to try only to delete them three minutes later when we discover they are not what we thought or don't work or don't do what you wanted? This currently would be one of them in my book. IMHO 2.0 is a different app doing different things in different ways to 1.4. 1.4 suits my needs and does exactly what I need a syncing app to do in real time. It is good at this and (again) IMHO is the ONLY one out there that actually does it in real time which is a massive bonus to me and I suspect many others. 2.0 does things I don't want (such as displaying ALL folders on ALL machines) and does them in a way that is too complex for me. There are no options to turn on/off these additional features that appeared from nowhere either. 1.4 is free and unlimited in the number of folders it processes. Why don't we ask the devs to ditch the free 2.0 and continue to work on the free 1.4 version to iron out the few bugs that are left? THEN (when the product is ready for the general public) roll out a paid or donated version of 1.4 to keep the support running/make money (not a subscription model) Keep 2.0 Pro as a paid for by subscription product and see how many people go for the subscription offering ? Hope this helps, and do PLEASE keep the discussion polite :-)
  3. BEWARE !! THIS INSTRUCTION IS INCOMPLETE (for Windows at least) !!! Make sure you check the remove settings box at point #4 or you will NOT BE ABLE TO INSTALL 1.4 or any other version without much pain and searching of files on your PC to remove. Dev Team please note and edit your instructions to match other instructions on the forum!
  4. And a fire it CERTAINLY IS !! I am not quite sure how to vent my anger with both BTSync and myself for foolishly upgrading to V2.0. It does not work. period. AND to top it all, in attempting to revert to V1.4 I am left with a computer unable to install ANY version simply because the OFFICIAL page that tells you how to go back inadvertently forgets to mention you MUST check the delete settings box!!!! The instruction is there on a page in the forum, but NOT on the official V2.0 getsync site - meaning ANY version will not install as there are folders left on the computer - all attempts to install leave the thing in crash mode (yes, I managed to hit the 'send info to the dev team button' once - I hope you got it!) The new program so graciously given to me for free lasted 3 hours before it stopped syncing. My usual attempts to get it working have failed and as I have become reliant on being able to edit and add files to either one of my computers I attempted to revert back to V1.4 using the instructions provided. This has failed and I am now in the unhappy position of having to work out how to start again with 350Gb of data THANKS A LOT !!!!!!! This program was good. I jumped in at about 1.3.87 and bravely made the move to 1.4. I have spent MANY hours using/testing/providing feedback on 1.4. We were told that fixes had been done in 2.0 that were not done in 1.4 (read the threads in the forum) yet within minutes of starting 2.0 I was back in the same old position of locked files being incorrectly reported in the UI; and to have files stuck on both peers not syncing is inexcusable - the whole point of the software is to sync. If it is incapable of syncing then it is useless. I have NEVER experienced such a poorly executed product launch in my life. I have spent 30 years developing product for many customers - and this takes the biscuit for sure. OK - I have had my say. I am thankful that I have not lost any data or money in this venture - only my precious time which I gave freely in the knowledge that I was using the software free of charge - yes it has been useful and could be again......if it is fixed and made to work properly. Good luck to all who continue to use this software, I will try one more time to reinstall 1.4.111 over the weekend but will not be looking to 'upgrade' again. There are too many cooks in the kitchen putting their ideas into what was once a sound recipe.
  5. Not good so far with 2.0.85 I am afraid. I upgraded both my peers this afternoon, after working out how to propagate the license across from one machine to the other (seems the ONLY way is to link the two devices together which I did not want to do) All switched over well enough and I was pleased to see an almost instant recognition and complete sync of both machines with four folders and about 350Gb of data (as simple as migrating from 1.3 to 1.4 I would say) However, both machines were sat on my desk on the same network. All was OK for a couple of hours. I have now brought the laptop home and added some files. However, the files added on the laptop are now stuck NOT syncing to the desktop, AND 7 files have mysteriously appeared on the desktop waiting to sync to the laptop! Furthermore, NEITHER machine is reporting out of sync - in fact the sync status column is BLANK on both machines, yet on checking the peer list I see these stuck files on each machine. I am used to seeing stuck files, and can easily rename them (this normally gets them unstuck) there are only 9 of them, BUT.....this is the full Pro Version that I thought had been fixed??? Not so. It seems I will still be spending time managing the sync and making sure all is well. It is a shame that I now have to make four mouse clicks to find errant files AND I have to actively do this as the status is BLANK - no green circles with ticks in, no out of sync, no 'I am stuck' ....NOTHING. I am NOT particularly impressed with my first 3 hours use of this new 'professional' software. I trust the 'team' appreciates my testing of this software and features for them - this feedback SHOULD be a little more useful than much of the posts I have read over the past 24 hours! :-) edit: - following MANY attempts to clear the stuck files Sorry guys, but it appears that the laptop is failing completely to sync to the desktop machine with this version of the software. This is completely unacceptable and I will now need to work out how to go back to 1.4.111 which at least works both ways. I have to do this before others start using the data in my morning!
  6. Hi All, I just upgraded two machines to 2.0 and have an issue with peers and ghost folders. I am syncing a folder of photos with my Father in a different country - he is running an old version of BTSync (cant remember how old) but it has been working fine syncing the odd photo every now and again. My two main computers are syncing between themselves perfectly well as well. However, on upgrading the two main computers I notice that the synced folder to my father has appeared on the OTHER V2.0 computer. ALSO it has appeared on the synced machine as a new peer. I did not ask this to be synced and do not want an additional peer on this share. How do I remove the folder from the machine it is not supposed to be on? When I go to the remove button it tells me it will be removed from ALL machines?? WTF ?? I don't want to remove it from all machines, JUST from the one is should not be on?? Please help.
  7. I confirm this is possible as well - and yes, (from my experience) higher level folder should be synced first then the lower level one(s) Make sure the sync is complete on the higher level folder BEFORE attempting to sync folders within !
  8. The files could well still be locked on the machine you are looking at even though all peers are offline, so this could be correct. A quick look on the computer to see which files are still open should identify them. Incorrect reporting of this is well covered in other threads, so I won't go into it here - it could be you are getting the incorrect reporting error, so please check out the forum.
  9. your statement Roman that you are not planning to make any more changes to 1.4 brings up the question: do you still need feedback on 1.4.111 or should we all just give up on any further development of this version? I am happy to continue to provide feedback - but there seems little point if all development is stopped and only V2.0 and on will be fixed from now on. It also begs the question: Will 1.4.111 continue to work and be available for free or will it stop working (or the tracker servers for instance stop working) at some time in the future? I suspect many would appreciate an honest and open answer to this second question - perhaps from epounds? Thanks, Colin.
  10. Hi All, I have been trying to work out why my folders are not syncing and I have discovered a flaw in the History reporting. I have two computers with several folders syncing between them. When one folder completes its sync the report in history shows the computer having completed, it does NOT show which folder has completed syncing. Surely the report should show finished syncing with folder (xx) on (computername) ? This is on 1.4.111 but 2.0.52 is the same. In fact, I just noticed a notification pop up which DOES report the correct folder, so why on earth is this same information not in the history file?
  11. This shares A FOLDER, not a FILE as mentioned by Dan203 ?? is it possible to do the same with a file?
  12. Hey Roman, I have finally got around to loading up one of my big (135Gb) folders as a third peer using a retired PC (Win7home 64bit, 6Gb Ram, i7 processor) this machine is running 2.0.52 and is syncing a small folder from my main PC perfectly well. However, when attempting to add this as peer #3 to the existing 1.4.110 sync across two PC's it fails. I have copied the entire folder to this new machine and set up the R/W sync manually using the key from the 1.4.110 machine. It gets going well enough, but indexes and syncs in seconds (where my other faster computers took hours to complete the initial index) Status goes from indexing to nothing very quickly and the last synced message came up immediately as well - on this machine. On the other two machines I am getting the dreaded 'out of sync' message as it has not actually synced to machine #3. Interestingly, an update to a spreadsheet is correctly propagated across the two 1.4 machines, but ignored on the 2.0 one ?? I am not yet ready to go to 2.0 with my main machines, so I have stopped this little experiment for now and will continue with the two way syncs that seem to work well enough. Points to note - 1.4 and 2.0: With a three way share it would be useful to understand what is synced and what is not - clearly in this scenario I started with two machines synced and the third one was not synced with the other two, Some sort of indication as to which peer is and which peer is not synced would be extremely useful in the GUI. 2.0: I will also repeat my request to reinstate the circle tick status of a fully synced machine please - having a blank space is not intuitive at all - especially when the last synced date is clearly wrong! 2.0: The colour guru seems to have gone missing again, as it is almost impossible to see the text 'indexing' in the status column unless it is highlighted - going from almost impossible to read to blank is disconcerting to say the least. 1.4 is far easier to read and understand. That's it for now, I have not really had long enough to play to provide you with any more info, and I have no logs, sorry, after 24 hours trying I have given up and deleted the folder sync on machine #3 1.4 2.0: This raises another issue - in that I am now unable to remove the unwanted peer without reducing the #of days in the advanced settings - it would be useful to be able to remove peers immediately, as I am now having to wait until they go before knowing if I will lose the out of sync message which of course is now there because I have removed a recently added peer, so it cannot fully sync. Yes, I could set it to zero, or one day, but what if my computer is off for a day? I will lose ALL connections and have to start again. (IMHO) This setting should be per folder, NOT for the whole app, but better still to be able to simply delete a no longer required peer manually. That's it for now, keep up the good work, Rgds, Colin.
  13. +1 to wanting the status symbol back. an empty space tells me nothing, it does NOT tell me it is OK. This may not be a bug but who on earth thought it would be sensible to take out? Colours now better in 2.0.51 - thanks for listening even if you can't acknowledge input!
  14. Will do Roman, Logs are on permanently ! next week I will be trying, but it is not really assuring to be told peer #3 usually causes issues! Lets hope we can iron these out so that you are able to tell other customers any # of peers does NOT normally cause issues :-)
  15. Hi All, Just like to report in with positive news on my front. 1.4.110 installed on my two peers and all seems to be working as well as can be expected. I note that there is a slightly longer delay on the GUI reporting following the edit/save of my spreadsheets and other office docs - but they get synced and the GUI (currently) reports all of this correctly. I am having a few issues with 'out of sync' 'no peers online' BUT....I am now suspecting this is down to my use of VPN's as I am in China. What is currently useful is that I am able to identify the errant files by checking peers - and my issues are generally around new files added that are stuck. Exit app, turn off VPN and reentry of the program on the 'master' side where the files were added has cleared this for me successfully every time, hence my suspicions around the VPN (and me being in China) I have yet to play with V2.0.... but given the reports coming in on this I will give it a few more weeks before diving in! Keep up the solid work guys, I THINK V1.4 is ALMOST there :-) I am nearly ready to add #3 peer as a read-only backup - last time I did this it all went horribly wrong!
  16. Thanks Roman, Sorry to be such a pain with my questions, but someone has to ask them ! I am happy to test your possible fixes of the office issue, but need to keep my 1.4.xxx version rather than 2.0.
  17. Hi All, I am assuming (perhaps incorrectly) that 1.4.106 INCLUDES whatever work you had done in 1.4.10005 ?? or have I just made a backwards step in upgrading to this version?
  18. +1 - it would certainly be good to be able to move these columns around (and rows for that matter) just like other programs you get in windows :-)
  19. Hi Guys, As a backup I still use FreeFileSync as I am unable to make a three way sync work and I don't like the way BTSync creates a mesh of peers anyway - I would MUCH prefer a Master file set being linked to the slaves without the slaves linking as well, but as the mesh is a core part of the way BTSync works this is not likely to change. It is great for some and good for others. BTSync of course does its work in real time which is what people need for syncing (freefilesync does not yet work in real time to my knowledge) - I simply use BTSync to make sure my laptop and deck computer are the same at all times and I can switch work or play between the two seamlessly - the backup of those files is (and should be in my opinion) independent of the two working machines and therefore does NOT need to be meshed or backed up in real time. It is interesting you are still experiencing the out of sync issues - did you get to try 1.4.10005 test version - this fixed these issues for me. However, you have three times the size of data to sync than me - but then how much of it is changing all the time, I have files constantly changing throughout the day - and the software seems to keep up with it all (for me, so far!)
  20. Hi There guys, This used to be a problem for me, but I am all sorted now. The thing to do is to double check the actual file numbers synced - preferably with a different program (I use freefilesync) and look for ALL instances of !sync across both computers (just use search in explorer) With BTSync turned off delete ALL the !sync files you find (they are files created by BTSYNC as it does its work) I would advise you start again from your one main computer and COPY all the files to the second one - then set up the sync and let BTSYnc do its work indexing. From what I can gather you should not be syncing folders within folders across these two machines as you are already syncing the main folders - this I have been told could cause problems. Its OK to sync a 'nested folder' to a different machine, but not to a machine where the top folders themselves are already synced. I suspect you are not getting replies as these problems are well covered in the forum - you just need to know the right key words to find the threads! - good luck, its a great program underneath, you just need to get used to the way it works. @journeyman - have you tried 1.4.106 ? I have not had this problem since about 1.4.9something - but used to get it a lot with a three way syncs (I don't do any more than 2 way these days just in case)
  21. Hi All, Just a quick note to report that I am still experiencing the incorrect 'locked file' report on GUI with this new release of 1.4.106. It is interesting to see the known issues section omits this, the issue mentioned above and the 'out of sync' reporting(on all but Power PC's) and the Microsoft Office incompatibility issue. This omission leads me to ask what issues are actually on your list and what are being worked on and in what priority? Just to be clear my meaning of issues is faults, or bugs as mentioned in a previous post of mine regarding the listing of known faults. It would also be interesting to know what 'minor issues' actually are, as some people may need to know that a 'minor issue' has been fixed. Its all a little vague.
  22. Guys, I just downloaded and installed this (from the first link on your post) and it is coming up as V1.4.103 on the notifications bar?? On checking the direct link I see you have a properly named file - I will try this one instead, but can you PLEASE check the download site BEFORE you post its link! yes, the one in the direct link is the new one!
  23. Hi All, I would like to report that I have had ZERO problems with accessing or saving my Office files since using the test version 1.4.10005 on my two peers. I am still experiencing the incorrect reporting of locked files, but this is not stopping the 'back end' from syncing correctly. I have also yet to experience the 'out of sync' issues from previous versions. The software is also still actively syncing about 4Gb (and growing) of photos/movies across the World to my Fathers PC in the UK (I am in China) This is IMPRESSIVE to say the least. Over the weekend I took several short clips on my phone - these were successfully up/downloaded to my PC here (via DropBox with a VPN) and then transferred across to the UK using BTSync without a VPN. Some files were 500Mb in size - all transferred without problems. Hopefully the fix that was put into 1.4.10005 will be released officially before 1.4 is superseded with 2.0 , it seems to be working for me!
  24. You know guys, I don't actually think you answered the question fully. Please excuse my ignorance, I have absolutely NO IDEA what a 'DHT' network is. Enabling the option is clear, but how and what that option does is not. Perhaps one of you could enlighten me (and perhaps millions of others around the world?) Thanks! OK - Wikipedia answered this for me, but I seem to be unable to post the link here.
  25. Hey Roman, does this apply to win8.1 tablets as well, or do they sync in the background ? just curious as I am not sure mine is syncing or not in background. Thanks :-)
