  1. This is already possible and implemented through the use of "encrypted keys" - Please see What is a key and how does it work? and Key structure and flow.
  2. Please see "the previous change log may be found here" link in the first post of this thread. This will link to the previous build, which in turn will link to the build before that, and so forth. However, before downgrading, consider elaborating on your particular issue so that the Sync team can try and help resolve it for you!
  3. Assuming you're using a Read/Write Key on both devices, both devices will end up will Files A-F
  4. As N4TE_B has said, "The $39.99 is per individual. We are still working out the exact mechanics on how this works across multiple computers owned by the single person. Calling it 'per peer' pricing isn't quite right. More to come on this" ...so it's not a per node/per peer cost - it's "per person" - If you have Sync running of half a dozen of your own devices, you'll only pay 1 x $39.99/year, not 6 x $39.99/year! I'm curious to hear how you think this news "ruins" Sync?! As has been indicated, there will still be a free offering of Sync with version 2.0! The introduction of an additional paid version with features not currently found in the free offering, doesn't take anything away from the current functionality of the free version (in fact, as has been mentioned in the blog post "We're improving the free edition over what’s available in version 1.4") So given that the free offering itself is improving and you're not loosing any functionality than you already have by sticking with the free offering... how is a "Pro" version "completely ruining" Sync?! :s Yes, but based on what assumptions of new/additional features and functionality!? It's pretty redundant suggesting how much you think it's worth or how much you'd be prepared to pay, when it's not yet been released as to exactly what new/additional features and functionality are in fact coming to 2.0 "Pro" over and above the free version! - because surely that information would affect how much you're prepared to pay for a "pro" version?! So why not wait for the feature set for Sync 2.0 "Pro" to be released, and then informed decisions can be made by users as to whether or not they feel it's worth the $39.99/year price point, or whether they're better staying with the "free" version?
  5. Given that the feature sets for Sync 2.0 Free and Pro haven't been released yet, perhaps it's a little premature to be questioning whether the "pro" version is worth $40/year?!
  6. As has already been stated, there will also be a free version of Sync 2.0 which will improve "over what's available in version 1.4". So if you're already "rolling your own cloud", I see no reason why you won't be able to continue to do this with the free version of Sync 2.0 moving forward. As N4TE_B has indicated, the "feature list will be distributed as we get closer to launch"
  7. "During the weeks of July 14 and 21, 2014 .... BitTorrent Sync applied generally accepted cryptographic practices in the design and implementation Sync 1.4 as of July 2014"
  8. This problem was fixed to some extent in 1.4. You can now rename/move files within the same Sync folder hierarchy and Sync won't re-transmit them. However, this only applies to files within the same folder hierarchy - it doesn't currently apply between separate, distinct folders. For example, if you're syncing D:\folder1 and D:\folder2, you'll be able to rename/move files around within folder1 (or any of its sub directories) without causing data to re-transfer, but moving between folder1 and folder2 would cause data to re-transfer.
  9. @jdrch, I hear you!! I'm also a previous Windows Live Mesh user myself, then I moved to Cubby - which as you say, was initially free until they started charging for the same functionality that was previously free! - which is why I then moved to Sync! The folks at BitTorrent are very aware of the Cubby story, so with that in mind, it's very unlikely that they'll "remove" current functionality in the forthcoming "free" edition of Sync 2.0
  10. There will be a Free version of Sync 2.0 as well There's nothing stopping you from using earlier versions of Sync now (1.2, 1.3, etc) ...but as I say, there will be a free version of Sync 2.0 as well. To the best of my understanding no current functionality will be "removed" from the Free version of Sync 2.0. So in paying for Sync 2.0 "Pro", you're not paying to keep existing functionality that you've already been enjoying previously for free, you'd be paying for new additional features/functionality not already found in the current "free" offering of Sync. ...and in a way, it still will be! If you're happy with the current functionality that Sync offers, you can continue using 1.4, 1.3, or the forthcoming free edition of 2.0! If however you want the additional features/functionality that the "Pro" version will offer... or perhaps don't necessarily need these features, but still want to support the project, then you'll be able to purchase a "Pro" version. Bottom line is you're not being forced for fork out to retain the same functionality you've been enjoying previously with Sync 1.4, 1.3, 1.2, etc.
  11. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there isn't an estimated date/month when you can expect such support. As you'll appreciate if you have a look through the Feature Request's forum, there are numerous requests for Sync to be supported on all manner of devices/OS's, including Firefox OS, PlayStation, OpenBSD, WindowsRT, Android x86, MIPS, ChromeOS, Blackberry... to name just some! ...and so realistically, they're not ALL going to be supported whilst Sync remains in Beta! However, on a more positive note - specifically in relation to WD storage - the devs have clearly indicated that they do "want to support WD new firmware in future" - which is a stronger indication than has been given in relation to some of the other requested devices/OS's! So whilst there's no specific ETA at present, hopefully you can take some comfort in the knowledge that the devs are certainly aware of a desire for such support and they do want to support these devices at some stage in the future.
  12. "Trillions"?! Really?! 'cause there are only 7.125 billion people on the planet! Given that 1 trillion = a thousand billion, that'd mean that every single person in the world owns around 140 WD devices?(!) However, BitTorrent are aware of the interest in WD support, and as RomanZ's has previous indicated on a number of occasions: We want to support WD new firmware in future, but I cannot claim any plans / ETAs due to project status (beta) ... we'd like to support WD storage... but it won't be for Sync 1.4
  13. Correct - btsync.com is not affiliated in any with BitTorrent Inc. The official website for BitTorrent Sync is getsync.com A few warnings/considerations if you're thinking about using a "cloud storage for BitTorrent Sync"-type online service/website: BitTorrent Inc doesn't run or endorse any such cloud storage service for Sync The security of many of these sites is questionable - for example, btsync.com doesn't currently support encrypted nodes - so be aware of data security if you're considering syncing/sharing your sensitive data with these providers Sync is currently in "beta" - Therefore things may change as Sync develops and evolves which may break the functionality of these "cloud storage for BitTorrent Sync"-type online services. Be aware of this if you're considering taking out a lengthy subscription with such sites. The best advice I can give, if you require an "always on cloud" for Sync, would be to purchase a supported NAS drive or Home Server, plug it into your home router, and hey presto! - you've got yourself your very own "always on" cloud storage component for Sync! ...and this way you retain full control of your data - you know exactly where it is, plus it'll work out far cheaper than buying a subscription to one of these dubious "cloud storage for BitTorrent Sync"-type online services
  14. Just run sync with the /CONFIG switch, specify a config file containing a different listen address (or 0.0.0.0 to listen on all addresses), and you'll be able to access Sync from other devices accordingly
  15. There are a number of ways: 1) Hover your mouse over the system tray icon 2) Open the "Preferences" dialog (cog icon) within Sync - the current version is shown at the bottom of that dialog (you may need to scroll down to see it) 3) Locate the main BTSync.exe file (usually found in C:\Program Files\BitTorrent Sync), right click on it and select Properties -> Details
  16. From this blog post: "to guess one random secret it will take up to 15 septillion, 437 sextillion, 700 quintillion years. .... Basically if every person on the planet was sharing 9,000 folders and trying to guess another secret, then the sun would be out long before one person got someone’s secret."
  17. Sync will determine what needs to be synced automatically. However, when you add a "fresh" location, Sync first has to index its content - therefore it may initially show that 100GB needs Syncing, but during the indexing process you should see this figure decrease without anything actually transferring, as Sync realizes that data is in sync (which it can't do before its indexed it)
  18. The blue arrow is the amount of data your device doesn't yet have, and therefore the amount that is still to be downloaded from other devices you're sharing with in order for your device to be in sync with them. For example, if you add a 500MB file to the other device and the blue arrow on your device indicates 100MB - that means that you're already received 400MB of the file, but that there's still 100MB of data to be downloaded to your device in order for your device to be fully in sync.
  19. The arrows in your first screenshot indicate transfer speed - note the /s - "per second" units The arrows in your second screenshot indicate the amount of data to be downloaded (or in the process of downloading) to the device (blue arrow), or the amount of data to be uploaded (or in the process of being uploaded) from the device (green arrow) - note how these values don't have a "/s" unit, as they represent amounts of data and not speed of data transfer.
  20. Sync can't sync files whilst they're open/locked/in use by other applications - in your case, Thunderbird. Closing Thunderbird will allow the "downloads.sqlite" and "prefs-1.js" files to then sync.
  21. By default, Sync only listens on the loopback interface (127.0.0.1) If you're trying to access the WebUI via a different IP, you'll need to modify Sync's config file to listen for connections from another IP (or set it to 0.0.0.0 to listen for connections from all IPs)
  22. 1.4 is supported on XP, and has been now since 1.4.82
  23. You may be able to rename the .SyncTemp file to .xls(x), however as the .SyncTemp name implies - it's a "temporary" file used to receive data which is then automatically renamed by Sync to remove the .SyncTemp extension. If this hasn't happened, it's likely that Sync has not fully received the file, so manually renaming to remove the .SyncTemp part will probably not work. Have a look in the folder's .sync\Archive folder - you may find a backup copy of the "corrupt" Excel file there (also have a look in the .Sync\Archive folders on the other devices you're syncing your folder with)
  24. Try starting the Sync executable with the "/MINIMIZED" switch
  25. @micokeman, ...and just to supplement RomanZ's response, whilst the first option that RomanZ's indicates isn't directly possible in Sync, there is a related suggestion over in the Feature Requests forum for a "None-Deleting Node" - If this is the particular functionality you're looking for, consider adding your voice to that thread.
