  1. @all - The topic of Sync 2.0 is understandably generating a lot of quite heated comment & opinion here in the forums, and feelings are evidently running high. Now, everyone's opinion here counts, is welcomed and indeed encouraged, and is equally as valid as any one else's opinion here. However, please bare in mind that petty "bickering" or personal attacks against other contributors or their particular opinions is not constructive to the overall discussion, and will not be tolerated. You don't have to agree with everyone's opinion here, and you're more than welcome to put across your own view point, but please try to do so in a way that's respectful of others, without belittling their opinions. Folks, Let's keep things mature, civil and on topic for the benefit of all readers. Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.
  2. Is that the extent of you config file? ...because it's missing a "storage_path"! In order to remove the WebUI password, you'll need to run Sync with a config file a little something like this: (the above storage_path assumes you're running on Windows, you'll need to adjust its value accordingly for your particular Sync install)
  3. You are not alone, indeed this is very misleading! The documentation on Peer Management describes how you should be able to remotely disconnect peers and/or change their permissions. I have sought specific clarification on this from the devs - and it would appear that this ability only applies to peers which are not part of your "My Devices" mesh. For devices which you've added to "My Devices", there is currently no way to remotely disconnect and/or change permissions of your other peers.
  4. One official response has so far been given by Erik Pounds, Vice President of Sync, earlier in this thread. Further official responses will most likely follow in due course...
  5. Ok, well if the size of the .sync folder is only 8k, the other thing to check would be the exclusion rules (.sync/IgnoreList) - do any of these rules apply to the file names/extensions in the folder you're syncing, as this would also explain a size discrepancy between the folder size shown in Sync, and that size reported by your OS
  6. The folder size shown in Sync's UI will always differ from the folder size shown in your OS. This is because the folder size shown in Sync's UI only takes into account the size of the data being monitored/synced - it doesn't take into account the size of its own hidden .sync sub folder (containing amongst other things, the folder's "archive" (deleted/revisioned files)), which your OS will take into account when calculating the total folder size.
  7. Hmmm.. .well, Sync isn't, nor does it include, a media player, and so as such, Sync itself can't "play videos". Do you experience the same behavior if Sync isn't running on your device? Is it possible that you've perhaps turned the rotation lock on on your device?
  8. Yes - Linux versions are available on the regular download page.
  9. Sync needs to be running on your device for syncing to take place. If Sync isn't running, your files won't sync until the next time you run Sync. No They won't be able to sync during that period, but will catch up and sync once they are next powered on and Sync is running If your devices are on the same subnet/LAN, they will still be able to sync locally with each other without a connection to the outside world/wider internet. Documentation is in the forum of the Help Center
  10. You don't need a rooted device to be able to install the .apk - you will however have to allow your device to install applications from unknown sources (i.e. Settings -> Applications -> Allow installation of non-Market applications)
  11. @ConalB - I was highlighting a way that users can choose the location of folders and therefore effectively the names they appear as in Sync's UI. The steps I outlined would help address @el_milagro's issue (i.e. be able to sync a folder named "To Macbook" with a folder named "To Desktop"), and would also avoid the "DCIM and DCIM(1)" (i.e. enumerated folder names) issue which @hiephm encountered.
  12. @mexter, @w411, let's try to keep things on-topic please and not drift off into discussing various pricing plans/tiers of backup services!
  13. @all, on your desktop devices, go to "My Devices" within Sync, select your current device and change its default state to "Disconnected". You'll then be able to specify the location that each new incoming folder syncs to, rather than them being automatically synced to the default location, and enumerated in the case of identical folder names in the default location.
  14. Provided Sync is running, you should be able to move/rename in your OS an existing folder you're syncing, and Sync will recognize the move/rename. However, in the case of "moving", Sync might not recognize a move between different drives, only a move within the drive the folder currently resides on.
  15. You will only need 1 license in total for your 6 computers, not one license "per device". The wording of the EULA is currently being looked at by BitTorrent's Legal Dept to make this a lot clearer than it currently is - please also see this thread.
  16. Yes, it's a known issue (that doesn't only affect Mac clients) which the devs are aware of - hopefully it'll be fixed soon!
  17. No, it will sync all 50 of your subfolders The limit is that you can add 10 folders to the free edition of sync - there is no limit on the number of files/sub folders within each of these 10 folders
  18. This can already be achieved - simply go to "My Devices", select your current device and change its default state to "Disconnected". This will then allow you to specify a folder to sync each incoming folder to, and these won't start syncing it until you do.
  19. Upgrading from Sync 1.4 to Sync 2.0 will retain 1.4-style folders. To "convert" these to 2.0 style folders, you essentially need to remove and re-add them.
  20. An extensive list & comparison of various file synchronization software solutions available may be found in the Wikipedia article: Comparison of file synchronization software
  21. Please consider adding your vote/voice to the "none deleting node" feature request.
  22. Sync 2.0 is backwards compatible with 1.4, but not forwards compatible. This means that folders you create directly in 1.4 will work on 2.0 devices, however folders you create directly in 2.0 won't work with 1.4.
  23. Under "My Devices", select your current device and set its default state to "Disconnected" (instead of "Connected" or "Synced")
