  1. The Z Man, it is by design. If you use Sync as a service Sync works only in WebUI mode. Do you mean that you want to return to "normal" behaviour and install Sync as a regular app instead of using it as a service?
  2. meghan, Sync shows that message if you already have a folder with that key or if you add a folder with different key but choose the location of another folder, that was added in the Sync.
  3. RMFlagg, Sync creates both group and user. You need to add your users to btsync group so they will get read-write permissions to downloaded files. Files downloaded from another peers will be created with 775 permissions, under btsync user and group. Because Sync is already installed on your computer you've probably added some folders. You need to find storage folder location, where Sync stores settings. usually it is a ".sync" folder located near binary file, in current working directory or another folder specified in the config file. Sync from packages stores settings in the certain folder. You can point Sync to use existing settings if you edit /etc/btsync/config.json file and input your storage folder location in the "storage_path" parameter. If you don't know where your storage folder is located use this command to find it: find / -name settings.dat.old To start Sync you need to use this command: sudo service btsync start So you can change startup script, which you use to launch Sync.
  4. nrgbod, we received your logs. Let's continue our discussion in the support system.
  5. had-to-reregister, yes, you can delete *.journal and *.journal.zip files. If you don't want Sync to record them open Sync Preferences => Advanced => Power user preferences and disable "Enable journaling" option. And journals are different from logs that's why that option doesn't affect them.
  6. benbw, there are many improvements and changes in 2.3.6 version comparing the latest 1.4.111 version. Folders should continue synchronizing if you don't use obsolete keys, that started not from A, B or other correct letters. This article explains about correct keys. 1.4 supports only standard folders while 2.x version supports both standard and advanced folders. So if you update only one peer you need to add standard folders only. Before update backup this folder: /Users/user_name/Library/Application Support/BitTorrent Sync So even if something bad happens and Sync won't be able to covert settings you will be able to roll back and try again. Also we have a license where you pay only once but this is for personal usage only.
  7. nrgbod, probably It happens because of "Selective Sync" and it is by design. If you need open Sync, highlight files and choose "Remove" from the context menu. Then files will be deleted from other peers. Sync has the same behaviour for windows when webui is used and for linux if "Selective Sync" option is activated for the folder. If "Selective Sync" option is disabled on Linux or Android device Sync should delete files from other peers. Unfortunately I could reproduce files deletion after restart. In my case files are deleted immediately (when "selective sync" disabled) or just unsynced from the android device (when "selective sync" enabled). You can send us a feedback, include logs and tell which files you deleted on the device so we'll see what happens in the Sync.
  8. yds, steps in previous message can help you to do that. If you want to do another way you need to add standard folder in the Sync on Win10 then share it via read-only key. If folder already exists on the RPi you need to remove it first then add again via new key. There is also newer 2.3.6 version for RPi. You can install it via our repository. It can work with 1.2 version but it is outdated and may contain various bugs, which were fixed in newer versions.
  9. Darius, by default the option for listening port is set to be random: "listening_port" : 0, If you comment it by "//" symbols Sync won't random it and you'll be able to set listening port in the WebUI. //"listening_port" : 0, Please note that you need to restart Sync service or use SIGTERM signal so it will definitely save settings.
  10. yds, yes, you can do what you want. Here are small steps how to do that: 1. Install Sync on Win10. 2. Share your photos folder via key or link from WinXP with read-write permissions. 3. Then add that key/link on the Win10 and choose where your photos are located. Because destination is not empty Sync will suggest another folder name or path. Check this article to see how to avoid that. 4. Sync will check that all files are up to date and transfer only different or missing files to Win10. You only need to wait. Then everything should work with Win10 as if you used WinXP. However it's better to check that your keys are not obsolete (ideally starting with A or B) or Sync will replace them by read-only keys. Here is another article about correct keys.
  11. badincite, how many files do you have in your folders? For 1 big file transfer speed should be higher than for many small files if size is the same. We have this article explaining how to improve transfer speed. You can open Task manager/System Monitor and check disk read speed. If it is 99-100% then Sync won't be able to transfer files faster because of hardware/OS limitations. Another thing might be related - do you see "indexing" text on that folder during transfers?
  12. frixhax, if you had an android you would be able to create a folder from the phone and share it with read-write permissions with PC. When peers have read-write permissions deleted files are deleted from all peers. On iOS there are many limitations and you cannot manually access all your files and see folder structure. So as workaround you can create a folder and manually upload remain photos from camera roll or upload to Sync photos edited in another apps. But we'll consider your suggestion about read-write permissions for camera roll backup.
  13. frixhax, Sync doesn't delete photos from PC if you delete them from your iPhone because other devices where you backup photos have "Read-Only" permissions. It is by design.
  14. pks, do you edit your photos in some application and if yes do you see your photos inside camera roll or only when you open that application?
  15. Jan Cherniak, developers are working on the fix. But it has not been reported that it is fixed. However you can try beta version on Android, because fixes arrive there sooner than for regular android version.
  16. KP, looks like you try to apply the license but you have not opened GUI and have not created identity yet. If you don't plan to use WebUI or want to activate the license first you need to create identity. If you installed Sync via repository it's better to create identity in the WebUI. If you just downloaded the archive and launched it manually you can try WebUI or this command: "--identity your-identity-name". For example: ~/btsync/btsync --identity centos-7
  17. bugusnot, there can be various reasons why synchronization doesn't start. for example it might happen due to permissions issue or maybe you have asterisk symbol "*" at the end of some file name. Please collect logs according to this instruction and contact us via this form.
  18. Starting from from 2.3.3 it was fixed. Now Sync creates files under 002 umask, so that you can add your user to "btsync" group to get read-write permissions for all files downloaded from another peers.
  19. It was fixed so now Sync should work on CentOS 6.7 and it will run under "btsync" user as on other Linux OSes.
  20. Jineapple, do you have the latest 2.3.3 version on all your peers or at least 2.2.7 version? Do you copy the key or type it? I suspect that it might be related with older version or that you've typed "m[restofkey]" instead of "M[restofkey]". For example mR3YTINHLZM7E26DU3DBQL5GX3SP4CTGH. Because Sync shouldn't suggest you adding a folder when you paste M-key.
  21. ivarson, it's better to add "*.!ut" into ignore list then Sync will ignore all files with that extension because just ".ut" will prevent Sync from synchronizing only ".!ut" file. When files are ignored Sync won't synchronize them with another peers. And because they are ignored Sync won't patch temporary files. Usually Sync patches files by portions or chunks. So file is divided on chunks and Sync checks if chunk is changed or not. It means that if number of chunks is the same (or to simplify: file size in bytes) then only different chunks of the file will be updated. If file size is different then number of chunks will be different too. In that case if some bits were inserted between chunks Sync will consider that chunks were changed and will transfer all chunks starting from the inserted place, before that place chunks won't be transferred if they were not changed.
  22. szdavid, it's not enough to change just one string. If you decide to modify user under which Sync will run you will need to modify all config-files. We reproduced that Sync creates files with read-only permissions and will try to change that behaviour.
  23. Roklem, you can open Preferences => Advanced and make sure that logs are enabled so if you encounter issues you can tell us about it and create a ticket using this form. Then we'll send you a link to upload logs.
  24. Roklem, do you have the latest 2.3.3 version and how many files do you have in all your folders?
  25. alexauran, you can open .sync folder inside each folder and add this string into IgnoreList file: Usually Sync shouldn't synchronize that file because it's hidden. Maybe you have some programs that unhide that file? Could you show contents of IgnoreList and StreamList files?
