  1. All paths are relative to the root path defined in the sync folder location. As long as you define the root path correctly, it doesn't matter if the files are copied to a location in advance of setting up the sync. I'm actually setting up to do this at a firm locally. Initial sync will be on-site and updates will be stored off-site.
  2. You're not factoring in the hashing of the files that happens in those 20 seconds. Does the program say "Indexing" immediately when you change the files?
  3. There's no integrated option for that yet.
  4. Instant sync using the notify mechanisms works for sure on windows ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa364417%28v=vs.85%29.aspx ) and linux (inotify) platforms. The file change notification system on mac is different enough from normal *BSD platforms that it's difficult to code for in comparison.
  5. Western digital WDBACG0030HCH-NESN (3TB My Book Live) PPC build works, no additional software needed. Enable SSH through the "hidden" webui admin page, place executable, launch. Easy to place in startup scripts too.
  6. Filezilla is sequential transfers. BTSync is still non-sequential like regular torrents. Although there have been disk subsystem reworking since .1.26 that you probably should upgrade for.
  7. Sync is already realtime on platforms that have a file change notification system built in (read: not mac)
  8. All time calculations are normalized to a common timezone (GMT) based on the system's timezone setting. As long as the systems' timezone and clock settings are both correct, sync will happen properly.
  9. Are all (or at least some) of the devices on the same side of the router as your raspi?
  10. On both computers - syncronize your system clocks to a time server.
  11. Make sure the timestamp on the files you want to keep is newer (normalized to one timezone) Sync happens in both directions automatically.
  12. Trying to sync an entire windows user profile causes problems in that several files in it are constantly in use. You can't see the offending files normally because they're hidden by default. Also, your log went from 2.9mbyte down to 160kbyte just by running it through the windows "compressed folder" function (I used 7-zip to do it with the same format)
  13. Do you have inotify enabled in your kernel? Also, are you using 1.1.70 or newer?
  14. People still need to assign the update process to the various versions, and I guess they either forgot or decided not to put the newer versions up on automatic.
  15. Using what specific version of sync? Yes it could.
  16. Do you have the SPI firewall enabled in the router? What size range are the files you're syncing?
  17. http://forum.bittorrent.com/topic/19228- No it's not dead, and the last version not in the Sync Insiders release cycle was in the middle of August.
  18. I take it that gave the machines a sufficient kick in the butt to get the files transferring.
  19. You want them to be different. You may try port forwarding manually for the NAS.
  20. Are the ports set in sync to be the same on the NAS as well as the laptop? Have you tried making sure they're set to different ports?
